Maidan is so central that you can literally hardly miss it :)

With some of its architectural details being debated by citizens and professional architects alike, it is THE central square of Ukraine, place of so many historical events and great place to walk around, especially on week-ends and early in the morning/late at night.
The square is well lit and offers you plenty of sights to take picture of.

Maidan is an ideal place for taking a rest after finishing the free walking tour or as a starting point for your own exploring. During the weekends they close of the main Kreschatyk street so Maidan turns into a huge stage where kids perform in some kind of dance competition. Certainly worth taking a few pictures especially from the top of the shopping mall - just in front of hotel Ukraine. As night starts to fall the lights give the square a special glow which is perfect for taking night pictures :)

Again always have to visit Maidan Square. Such a festive atmosphere during the holidays and on weekends. Kreshatic Street is closed for all holidays and weekends. Plus you can experience interesting characters there.

Been there twice, once during New Years eve and once during the EUro 2012. This square is the real centre of Kyiv. It might not be the most beautiful square of the world, but it's lively during weekends, holidays and events.

The place was really very nice a decade ago with a classical marble fountain cup with music. Now there are several unconnected ecleclical samples of sculpture and architecture chaotically sticking out around the square.
