“Great location, breakfast and very comfortable room”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

I stayed at Boutique Riviera hotel this past August, 2012. It was a business trip and I had a great experience. The check in is very easy, fast and pleasant. Staff speaks English and they honor all bookings made through different website (booking.com, etc) which was very good on their part, because some boutique hotels in CIS countries do not do that.

My room was very comfortable and quite modern. I had a standard room and it came with slippers, bathrobe, and all the amenities that I needed.

The breakfast was very nice - a good variety of hot and cold food. It was a delicious choice of local dishes like vareniki and crepes to eggs (yummy!), cold cuts, nuts, cheeses, yogurts, etc. It was a type of breakfast that would suit everyone's dietary needs. The restaurants staff spoke English and were very accommodating and pleasant.

IT was also easy to get a taxi. The hotel does have a taxi service/car service which you can take and charge to the room. This is a car service so prices are higher but the plus side is that its right there and available upon short notice. We took it once because we were in a rush. The hotel will also call you a local taxi company at your request and the rates will be more competitive. They are very nice about that and willing to do it if you ask for a regular taxi not hotel taxi.

In all, a very good experience and I'd happily return when they have the sale prices. The current fall season prices are a bit too steep in my opinion but what we paid in August (180 USD/night) for the summer sale was well worth it!

Oh - location! Its fantastic. Its located right next to the Funiculaire that will take you up the hill to the Cathedrals. Hotel is in Podol area - very close to Andrei Uzviz. Lots of great restaurants near by for local cuisine. You can walk up the hill and you are at Kretschyatnik/Maidan. Can't beat the location that's for sure!

Room Tip: Ask for the newer rooms. Hotel was revamped as I understand, so they have newer rooms on the same fl...

This hotel is a good choice for travelers who want a well situated base for exploring the city and also value good service and amenities.

The front desk staff speak good English and contact with them prior to arrival was prompt and professional and extremely courteous.

Breakfast is very good indeed- a fantastic range of food available in the buffet in a light and airy breakfast room. Again, service in here and at the bar area was excellent.

Those who are travelling for leisure will also appreciate the location. Accessing the historic centre is easy when taking a very short and inexpensive ride in the adjacent furnicular lift. This runs until approx 9pm and is very safe and easy. If you miss the last lift than the hotel is simply a short walk down the hill. However, if you want to have a short walk out of the hotel and have a good quality meal (and very cheap by UK prices) and a few drinks than Podol itself is a great district. There are numerous eateries and bars just a few steps from the hotel-in fact, it seems to be a trendy area to be in.

The metro is also very inexpensive and easy to use and again a few steps from the hotel. The station is "Poshtova Ploshcha" and this is also the station to use if you want to take a river cruise to see the famous Kiev sky line.

Bathrooms are nice and big with free bottled water and a fairly extensive range of products. The hotel is spotless.

Would recommend Kiev and this hotel for a lovely short break away.

Wonderful hotel with good service, front desk staff spoke English well- key in a city where few speak English. Huge bathroom with both shower and bathtub, bottled water provided daily, more than adequate breakfast buffet with good service. Good location for many, next to funicular and good view from some rooms of the Dneiper river- very comfortable bed- our room even had a small , very small balcony-

Room Tip: the higher floors with balcony will afford a nice photo opp

Hotel Riviera proved to be an excellent choice for our corporate event. As event managers, we can say that we were very sattisfied with hotel management, conference room equipment and level of services provided to our guests.

Communication with hotel management and arrangement of services were prompt, effective and professional.

We will not hesitate to work with the hotel in the future by similar occasions as all our guests were very sattisfied with the chosen venue.

I have visited the Riviera Hotel on many occasions over the past few years since it opened. It quickly became our hotel of choice when doing business in Kiev. That might be statement enough to say the hotel meets our needs while travelling on business.

The staff are always courteous and efficient in providing a good service. Check in & check out are always easy and they are happy to help in organising airport collections, taxis, forgotten shaving kits and in other such situations! They also provide a few additional touches that going beyond the normal. I recall on one visit receiving a gift because it was my birthday during my stay. Nice touch.

I can recommend the airport pick up service arranged through the hotel. The cars are clean and well driven. The drivers often speak very good English and are happy to converse if you are. Although, sometimes I do use the 30-40 minute drive in from the airport to catch up on some sleep!

The rooms at Riviera are very comfortable and well equipped. I have been fortunate to be upgraded to a larger room on one or two stays. This is of course fantastic and helps the stay from home to be more pleasurable. The photos attached to this review are of one such larger room.

The hotel is fitted to a high standard but keeps a relaxing atmosphere. It should be noted that Riviera is a small (ish) hotel compared to others at its class in the city. This adds to its charm. Consequently, the facilities are not too large but sufficient enough. The bar area is a good space to relax and have a bear after a busy day. Occasionally if there is a function on in the hotel, the bar will be designated to delegates. But, other facilities are available to guests. The dining room and veranda are also very comfortable. There is also a roof-top restaurant/bar but, I rarely visit it. It does have very good views and I imagine is a good place to relax in the warmer evenings. (My visit to Kiev in February 2012 was concurrent with -20C temperatures!).

There is a good food menu with a mix of local cuisines and European favourites. The food is cooked, presented and served to a high standard. I always happy to eat there when I have time! I would recommend try some of the look specialities, I especially enjoy the Deruny (potato pancakes) and Vareniki (filled pasta similar to Ravioli).

The lobby area has a small but comfortable sitting area and this is often used by me and others for informal and relaxed meetings. The dining room and bar veranda also provide suitable areas for business discussions.

The hotel is situated within the Podol district of Kiev, it is therefore close to the Dnieper river. My impression is that this area of the city is growing in popularity to several new restaurants opening and a large luxury hotel opening just round the corner. If you don’t want to eat in the hotel, there are a lot of good choices for food within walking distance. On my last visit, I ate at Oliva – a lively Italian restaurant, 2 blocks down from the hotel.

The hotel is well connected by some of the cities main roads. But, my experience of Kiev traffic is that it is nearly always bad and the junction on which the Hotel Riviera is situated often appears to be a bottle neck around rush hour. This can be frustrating when getting to or returning from meetings – so take this into account. Getting around the city outside of rush hour is very easy and straight forward. The hotel is also adjacent to the funicular railway which for a small fee allows you to skip the corner of the busy road system and climb directly up to the Foreign Ministry and Mihailovsky Monastery.

Overall, always very pleased to stay at Hotel Riviera.

Room Tip: Ask to be in a room on the left hand side of the hotel (as you face it), then your room should look...
