There is a good tourist info centre (where statue of Prince Michael faces). A number of classical buildings surround it. It is one end of the pedestrian street. There are a few good and cheap cafes near the side of the National Theatre (direction of Danube) e.g. breakfast of two eggs, bread, OJ and espresso for 210 dinars (less than €2).
Be careful of directions. Easy to get losst. Streets join the square at odd angles and hard to tell where to exit.
