Well, as many visitors I used to spent evenings in Skadarlija. After a while I found that famous place less and less atractive, designed for mass of turists. My Serbian friends shown me Znak pitanja place (question mark) as one of the oldest restaurants in Belgrade. More than positive surprise. Superb food, decent traditional musik in the background. Once again superb food and great atmosphere. I will go back, for sure!

Thank Vinetou

It;s not reastaurant only, but step to the history. Besides traditional cousine, You'll find yourself in the surrounding of early 19th century. Much better during summer when garden is opened.

We visited the restaurant in early December 2012. The place was half-full, but the attention from waiters was not appropriate (we had to call them several times, as they were passing by, without even looking at us). Toliets are quite far and cold, as they are outside...so in winter not much of a pleasant experience. But that's secondary.
Food and drinks:
Beer and rakija were good. But unfortunately that was it.
Soup was too salty. We have ordered a Grilled plate for two with lot of different grilled meat. Chicken was nothing special, but the local specialities (Pljeskavica, Cevapcici) were of really a low quality. Meat was tough and without any taste (let me also state it was not the first time I was eating Balkan food). You could absolutely not compare it to Restaurant Fontana in Novi Sad we have visited afterwards.
I have read quite a lot about this restaurant, so was expecting a higher level of service and much much better food.

You have to read about the history of this place and see some of the old paintings showings its original looks to appreciate it more.
You can get the traditional feel inside the restaurant much better I think. Like most of the other restaurants in Belgrade, a smoke cloud greets you and you can feel the smoke burning your throat.
We had the mixed grill and the gulash. Both were very good. The house wine was the worst part of the whole experience. Maybe they brought vinegar by mistake, I am not sure.
They have old school waiters, who are nice but they also give you a feeling like they are the boss and not you.
Overall, the experience is good. It has the perfect location for a lunch, especially if you are sightseeing in old town.
Prices are ok.

After whole day of visiting Belgrade, it is a perfect place to enjoy delicious Balkan cuisine sitting in a yard garden and watching the cathedral tower with its clock belling every quarter of hour..... Friendly staff, tasty wine as well as rakia, nice selections of local dishes each one more tasty than the other.... Prices quite moderate and acceptable for mid-budget traveller.... after a nice dinner you enjoy a walk to your hotel and feel happy of visiting Belgrade.... a place not to be missed!!!
