“Fish and smoke on the water”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2013

Seven of us (three kids and four adults of American, Serbian, Irish and German extraction) had dinner on this romantic boat, looking out on the Great War Island and Kalemegdan. The waiters were very accomodating, providing blankets and mosquito repellent. The food was delicious. The spicy peppers were indeed hot, the shopska salad maybe a bit bland. But the main courses were excellent throughout: Perch, Dorada and chicken. With the fish they give a choice to have it served filleted or with heads and tails. We chose the more laborious option, which added a fun element. The side dish - grilled vegetables - was mouth wateringly marinated and garlicky. The kids loved the palacinka desserts. Unfortunately they have no draft beer on offer, but several bottles of Nisicko Dark did the business. Like in all Serbian restaurants most patrons smoked like chimneys, which was was a little bothersome, especially for the kids, although we were seated outside. The musicians played Tamburica tunes, one of which was "Ti nisi neces vratiti" - "You will not come back". Well, we surely will!

Fantastic food, beautiful ambiance, excellent service and very, very good live music (they can play all Balkan etno-music).

“Fantastic fish and meat in a riverside location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2012

Not easy to end but take a taxi and they will drop you in the right spot. This is one of a small group of riverside (in fact not so much riverside as actually standing in the river) restaurants in the Usce area of Belgrade. I was taken there by a colleague who had been impressed on a previous visit, and I can see why.

The restaurant itself is a quirky round pole wooden construction, roughly circular and redolent of Polynesian thatched huts or European circular lake huts from two or three thousand years ago, depending on how widely travelled or archaeologically expert you are I guess. Anyway, it's interesting, airy and the circular design and surrounding terrace with dining tables looking over the river towards Kalmegdan Fortress, make for a great dining experience. The staff were welcoming and efficient throughout.

Unusually the restaurant offered not only a good range of river fish but also some sea species. One of my fellow diners had the largest sea bass I have seen in a restaurant in some time and it was cooked beautifully. The rich and plentiful fish soup is also worth of recommendation. I had the chicken cooked in prosciutto, mozzarella and a creamy sauce with grilled vegetables.

I rate this restaurant as excellent, not in the Michelin star sense, but for the simple, delicious food at great value in an interesting location.
