“The greatest disappointment ever!”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

Me and my family visited Belgrade for 3 days. We had no idea where to eat so we consulted tripadvisor. Tripadvisor presents this... thing as a hidden treasure in Belgrade. So, we decided to give it a shot. Let me explain you what happened. The taxi diver had no idea were it was. He had to ask the taxi center to find out where it was. We went through some industrial residences, abandoned buildings and garages, to find something that looked like a warehouse! We entered th garden (a concrete yard between a tumbledown warehouse and a garage) and sat in a table that really lacked lighting. We could not see what we were eating! The mosquitoes had launched a full-scale assault! The food was interesting, but not the exceptional quality that tripadvisor claims it has. In general, I would strongly recommend to go somewhere else to eat.

“too grim an area and environment”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

That was the first time that following tripadvisor's reviews let us down! Is it possible to recommend this place as Belgrade's best -hidden gem!- restaurant? The location is terrible: between warehouses and abandoned garages. The so called "garden" was a concrete floor dusty yard with little effort to hide the grim surroundings. Heat was intolerable, mosquitoes were attacking without mercy and light was so little, we had to ask for extra candles... Food was very good, though- but not enough to balance the other drawbacks. The restaurant is neither modern, nor alternative or avant-garde. It is simply not beautiful.

“Top notch - don't miss if you visit Belgrade”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

This restaurant is tucked away in the back streets of Belgrade, most taxi drivers know where it is, but don't just turn up as it is much better to book in advance, it's very popular and if you get a table you will realise why.

Very minimalist but very nicely decorated, the welcome is warm and you know you are going to be well attended to. A dish of home made bread arrives quickly, the menu is superb.

Presentation of the food is exceptional and very tasty, the picture attached is duck, from one of the two visits I made this week. From a UK perspective this restaurant is extremely reasonably priced, but the local clients here appear to be well heeled and/or the restaurant is probably reserved for special occasions.

Only downside for me being a non-smoker is that the proliferation of smokers in close vicinity to where you are eating, but you know what they say about "when in Rome".

Highly recommended and will definitely be returning.

“Nice ambiance and excellent service. Interesting Food”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

I travel to Belgrade frequently on business, so I have had a chance to try several restaurants in the city. My colleague saw that Homa was top rated, so we decided to give it a try.

The restaurant has a very modern feel, which is cool and chic - lots of poured and polished concrete which is great look. The hospitality was excellent, and we felt well attended throughout our meal. Presentation of each course was very tasteful and everything seemed very clean and well organized.

We had cocktails (I had the strangest vodka martini ever - it was very sweet, like an old fashioned) and opted to try the 8 course tasting menu. Our particular experience was a bit underwhelming. Three of the appetizers were what you could describe as "experimental fusion" - involving some textures, blending, etc. The balls and mushroom parfait sort of fell flat, the fois gras was somewhat interesting. All three were cold apps. We enjoyed all of the main items - Chicken breast with baked spinach with quail egg; pressed veal with morel mushrooms, and sous-vide lamb on quinoa. The desserts were OK - the apricot lavacake was super sweet, and the minty clay pot was nice - but both could have used some bitter contrasts.

So - overall, we did appreciate the effort and creativity, but results were mixed. Generally speaking, I'd say this type of cooking is dificult to pull off for anyone, and like many of my Serbian eating experiences, it ended up being, "those three different meat varieties were all great".

We let our server pick two Serbian wines - the first was a bordeaux blend that was very thin, the second was much better, a bit more interesting, but also a bit thin.

There was a cute golden retriever at the table behind us - very friendly dog, although I felt afterwards like maybe I shouldn't have been petting it while dining.... oh well.

Overall - this was an interesting dining experience, glad we went, not sure if we'll go back.

“Belgrade's gem”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

Homa restaurant is the place you don't want to miss in order to have the best service and tasteful meals. The menu is changing through seasons and there is always a special menu of the day. Last night I tasted new 8 dishes menu which I highly recommend. All the best to Filip and co.
