Excellent food with a very friendly staff! We both had blackened grouper and it was very delicious. The gouda mac n cheese was a great twist! The restaurant has a very old time vibe and it sets the perfect vibe for a romantic dinner or relaxing casual dinner with friends. I will definitely be back again soon.

Enter the front door facing the river and you walk back in time 200 years. On the left is the original bar room now containing seating for about 25 or 30. To the right is the former Ladies parlor with seating for ten and behind it another room with seating for 8, all of which is an improvement over the former cramped spacing under the previous owner. Upstairs (still under construction) will be a bar, a large single room(larger parties), and access to the porch with what can only be described as a "magnificent" view of the Ohio River and Augusta riverfront. So I'm told, Augusta City Council is arranging docks next to the ferry landing for temporary dockage so boaters can come into town for Chandler's or the other fine eateries thereabouts.
This building has been providing sanctuary since the late 1700's and has once again opened its doors for food and fun after closing down two years ago after the previous owner's 25 year reign of fine food and service under its original name of The Beehive Tavern. The present partnership comes from Maysville 10 miles up the road where each had their own place and Chandler's still exists. They overhauled the Beehive - restrooms, kitchen, etc. to upgrade - while still in process of finishing the upstairs, they reopened November, 2012.
HOURS: right now they're only open FRIDAY, SATURDAY, & SUNDAY but if memory serves will possibly add Thursday come Spring. Usually 11AM to 9PM, considerably more hours that the last operation.
Food: small menu, very limited. My wife had the potato soup(homemade) and proclaimed it excellant. I had the Kentucky Hot Brown, something I never pass up when in Ky.. Their version was Ok being either over cooked in the broiler that curdled the cheese or they used a cheese that didn't melt well - I'd give it 6 out of 10.
What I did find superb was the "Transparent" pie that Melissa, the co-partner and on-site boss, makes along with all the other desserts served here. The pie was worth the trip alone. Much like a chess pie, it seemed to have two different textures instead of one. It was as good a piece of pie as I've had in the recent past.
Being small and rather an intimate setting, the service is very personal and up close - one waitress and one boss - both working the floor.
Other than a pair of ladies just finishing up as we entered, we had the place to ourselves on a Saturday afternoon at 2. This, I'm sure, will change as word gets out that the Beehive is open again and the bar is finished upstairs for the summer season.
Will we go back? You betcha!! And this time we'll take the boat because Augusta has a superb public launch ramp just up the street and one of the most uncrowded and scenic stretches of the Ohio River, then dinner at the Beehive after a day on the water - it don't get much better than that!!
Unless you run into George Clooney home to visit his parents just down the street.
