As we were the only customer, we asked our waiter if the music could be turned down, he turned it off for us. Some time later another, charmless waiter turned the music back on. He refused to turn it off when I asked, telling him that it was our wedding anniversary and that I was enjoying listening to the birds singing, and that I was prepared for the music to go back on if they had other diners arrive. The nice original waiter then approached us to apologise, telling us that they would get into trouble if the owner arrived at the restaurant and found the music not playing. This episode spoiled what would have otherwise been a fine evening out. I have not received a reply to the email that I sent to the restaurant complaining about the music. The appetizers and main courses were not great, the dessert chocolate fondue was superb. There are better restaurant in Bucharest with outstanding food and they know how to treat their customers.

Some of the guide books said that Balthazar was the best restaurant in Bucharest. We thought it was ace. The food was a good as a significant London restaurant but the price for 2 was far more reasonable. It's a fusion restaurant, so you can have a japanese menu. We stuck to the main menu and were not disappointed. I had dumplings, which I didn't want to finish and then some Tuna, which was cooked perfectly. You can pay a large amount for wine, but stick to the local stuff and you'll have a reasonably priced great meal. Ours was £60 for 2 courses, a bottle of wine and a coffee. Not bad for the "best restaurant in Bucharest"

Music at 'disco' level, lousy service, wine to cold and meat overcooked; the ideal way to destroy a great day. Romanian interpretation of fusion. Great place to sent that guy from HQ you can't stand.

We arrived at 8pm and waited until 9.30 for our first course and then until 11pm for our mains. In the end it became farcical. We ordered cheese which showed no sign of arriving so we gave up and asked for our bill.If it wasn't for a delightful and overly apologetic waitress it would have been even more of a disaster. Perhaps they should start serving breakfast - you may have to wait that long! As for the food - we were past caring!

Restaurant is on quiet street and has pleasant courtyard for outdoor seating. Inside there's a nonsmoking section. Overall food was good. Dumplings were very good. Main dishes were above average -- the sauces were delicious, but we found the meats bit tough. Dessert wasn't great, but it might have been what we ordered. It was an unidentifable mousse cake (before we ordered, the waiter said it was chocolate, but it was quite tasteless) with mint ice cream.
