This museum offers a huge collection consisting of two exhibitions: one of medieval art (which mainly consists of religious objects i.e. icons, garments, etc.) and one of modern art. The medieval one is interesting but kind of one-sided, the modern one also offers a huge amount of paintings and sculptures. For me as an amateur on the field of art it was a bit too much so I got a bit bored. Also I would have found some more captions with information about the artists and the exhibits themselves more useful than just the name of the exhibit and the artist.

I'm not a huge art fan but the medieval art and Romanian art was truly fascinating. Take the time to read the info cards in each of the rooms and you really get a good history lesson of Romania in art. I paid for the European art collection too but I didn't have the time to visit that gallery the same day. I spent my entire time in the Romanian art collection. Very nicely done. If u have limited time go straight to the Modern Romanian art gallery levels 2-3. You could really spend a full day at this museum especially if u enjoy art.

Has a wide variety of art from different countries and artists. Includes pieces from more famous artists as well. Nothing is behind glass so you can really get up close and study the paintings. The Romanian side is actually very interesting and has more pieces than the Romanian National Museum of History. If you have the choice to only go to one go the Art Museum.

The Romanian National Museum of Art in Bucharest is located in the opulent former Royal Palace that was later used during the Communist era for the Council of Ministers. The building itself has an interesting history and it is to the great credit of the people of Romania today that the building has been restored to its former glory and now houses a world-class collection of art. There are three galleries, of which we had time only to visit one: The European Gallery. Only later did we realise what we had missed by not seeing the Romanian art galleries. Fortunately, the Museum has a very good website for virtual tours if you run out of time on your visit. For us the highlight was the totally unexpected discovery of Pieter Bruegel the Younger's famous Four Seasons sequence of paintings. What a delight! True, there are multiple versions of the Four Seasons, but it is still exciting to see all four hung together. The European Gallery has many other famous European artists. We we amused by the careful guidance we got through the Gallery as 'guards' would appear from nowhere as we approached the end of one room in order to direct us into the next. There was definitely an order to be followed, but this did not detract at all from the visit. I hope we can return one day to see what we missed.

This is a huge collection of very impressive art. The cost of 15 Lei or half that for seniors is a bargain. The docents direct you to the topmost floor to begin viewing. The art is arranged by nation of origin of the artist. You begin in the Italian artists section. Oddly the docent would only allow exit or entrance from one room after the previous had been viewed. This directing by docents is a first in my experience. It was a little amusing but also off putting as enjoyment of art is a personal matter and best done at one's own pace. There were perhaps half a dozen others in the Italian section at the same time.
