“A good museum situated in the heart of the city”
Reviewed April 26, 2012

The Sutu Palace is situated in the center of Bucharest, next to Universitate Metro Station and very close to Intercontinental Hotel. The Musem have a nice architecture, and here you can find a museum about the Bucharest history. Also, inside the yard you can find very often some fairs, where you can buy traditional stuff.

“Not much there”
Reviewed March 16, 2012

This a little like one of those small town scrap book museums in an old house although thi one is in an old Palace. Billed as the History of Bucharest Museum it really doesn't tell the story. It has a hodge podge of ancient artifacts, a couple of nice room restorations and oddly almost half the museum is devoted to the history of torture complete with what appear to be reproductions. The Palace foyer is splendid but full of clutter. The washrooms look like something from a 1930s psychiatric hospital and part of the great hall seems to be a utlility area. Most of the Palace is closed and it is not well signed on the outside. Worth a look but needs money restoration and a clear mandate.

“Old dancing mansion”
Reviewed February 10, 2012

The picture is not right. The Palace is located in the middle of Bucharest and is a smaller mansion, which used to belong to a noble family that gave wonderful soirees in the 19th Century. The huge staircase with 1-piece mirror and superb chandelier is still there, plus an ingenious wall clock going in reverse [it projects into the mirror]. It is squeaking due to lack of major repairs. The exhibits are interesting for the history of Bucharest. If there are temporary exhibitions [quite usual] these are much more interesting.
