“a place srrounded by history”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

Manuc's inn was build in 1808 and was originally owned by an Armenian wealthy family. Today, the inn is housing a popular restaurant, several bars and several stores. this place is massive and its courtyard is used for many performances and fairs. It is known to be the oldest operating hotel building in Bucharest

“Great atmosphere/mediocre food”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

Go for a beer (drink) & maybe an appetizer. The service & the food are both mediocre, but the courtyard seating & live music are great! Enjoy!

“Lovely setting in old caravanserai and very good Lebanese food”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

I had read a favourable review of Hanul lui Manuc on the Internet (not TA) and then someone from Bucharest told me it used to be great but may have gone downhill. The reviews here on TA are very mixed, so we debated whether to visit but decided to give it a whirl. It was close to where we were staying but, unlike Caru cu Bere (also a historic restaurant in the old town) we did not see lots of signposts to help us find it.

When we saw the entrance and walked inside we were quite wowed. It is very attractive and atmospheric. The courtyard of this old caravanserai is covered in tables and, in turn, these are covered in umbrellas which detracts a little from the appearance, but provides necessary shade for diners and, even better, the umbrellas spray a cooling mist.

We were offered two different menus: one traditional Romanian food and one 'Lebanese’ food. We opted for the latter and had lots of different dishes to share between the four of us. All of the dishes were very good (apart from the chips/ French fries). We had houmous, moutabal, tomato salad, pickles, falafel, chicken kebab and grilled prawns. Even the rice accompanying the main course dishes was very interesting and nice (not always the case, in our experience). We really enjoyed our meal and would recommend it, particularly to eat from this menu.

The toilets were also very clean and smart .

“used to be better”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

When I first visited in 2002, this place was a little known gem at a very good price. Even then the service was slow, and the atmosphere post-communist, but with the amazing location and architecture worth every penny- then about 20 euro per night! Today it is over-popular, expensive, and though still in a great location, don't bother going there for the restaurant and 'fakelore'.
