Great food, scallops carpaccio and salmon for starters were just delicious. For main we had sea bass and octopus - both very good. In meantime they serve some small recommendations from the chief, everything great. What's important the restaurant offers tables with relatively good intimacy, nice for business or romantic dinner.

Without doubt one of the most amazing culinary experiences I have had! From start to finish it was an awesome experience, the food was amazing and so well presented. The waiting staff were friendly and explained the dishes really well! Would definately go again, and would encourage anyone to reserve a table if visiting Bucharest!!

Dear Paul,

I'm sorry to only give you 4 stars. It's not for the food, nor for the location, especially not for your lack of involvement (which I'm absolutely sure is 100%). Not even for the toilets, which are splendid. Even the waiters are very attentive and well trained.

The only, honestly, only reason why I'm giving you 4 stars is because I'm judging your restaurant from an almost 1* Michelin point of view. The only place where this place absolutely needs improvements is the service. It wasn't bad, but nowhere near the politeness, the obsessive bombardment of information which the waiters (I'm sorry) lacked.

I asked a waiter if the bread was homemade. Her instinct was to say yes instantly. After 2 seconds she corrected herself and said no. You don't do that in such a wonderful place.

Get better service. Not a lot better, just a little bit better, and you'll be very happy.

The food was spectacular. No flaws whatsoever.

Regards,
Victor

When the taxi driver dropped us off he was sure we were in the right place but he was not sure exactly where the restaurant was but sometimes the best best places are a little harder to find and the Artist certainly falls into that category. On discovering the discreet entrance at the end of a dimly lit passage we walked up the stairs into an oasis of calm and beauty.

One of the first things that struck me as we were shown to our table was the space between the tables. All too often restaurants are, understandably, keen to cram in as many tables as they can to maximise takings, not so at the Artist. Our table was set back offering a level of privacy not found in many other restaurants.

We ordered the tasting menu as there really is nothing better to do than place yourself in the hands of the creative chefs in the kitchen. We were not disappointed.

I had the wines paired with my food but my wife does not drink alcohol so they brought her the most wonderful non-alcoholic cocktail that was designed as part palate cleanser part food enhancer. What we liked, and this may not be to everyone’s taste, was that the cocktail was brought without asking, in fact she ordered a non-alcoholic beer, which never arrived - but we did not mind in the slightest as it seemed an executive order was made and it was the right call.

The tasting menu is delivered as three courses of food placed upon spoons and is the entire menu but miniaturised. Initially I was concerned that there would not be enough food but yet again the chefs were proved right.

The amuse bouche came with its own smoking plate which was infused with rosemary. I knew we were in for a treat when the smoke emanating from the plate was as delicious as the food it is served with.

Each mouthful was akin to a “foodgasm”. Of the starters the fois gras and the salmon were amazing and with the main course we loved the grilled octopus with crispy noodles and the sea bass.

But it was not that the others were forgettable - far from it, it was just that we were blown away by each mouthful and it was almost as if each one was so good that it erased the thought of the last.

The wine that was paired with the first round of spoons was a delicious Romanian white. It complimented the food perfectly. The main course was paired with a Romanian pinot noir (if I remember correctly!) - whatever it was it was absolutely delightful and was ideal. The challenge the sommelier must have is choosing wines to pair with six different tastes on both the starter and the main and it was done with expert precision.

Before dessert was served the chef came out to serve us the most incredible cucumber sorbet. However this was not just any sorbet. We had small marble mortars placed in front of us with herbs in the bottom. Then on to the herbs was poured liquid nitrogen and we were required to use the pestle to crush the now dry and crispy herbs. Then a sphere of the sorbet was placed on top and we were encouraged to mix the two together, it was glorious.

The dessert was every bit as good as the two previous courses and mine was served with a gorgeous desert wine that oozed honey and peach and was perfectly balanced.

The Artist is a stunning restaurant and if you find yourself in Bucharest it is a must!
