“Impressive building - Worth visiting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2012

The tour is obliged and needs to be booked in advance. The tour only allow you to visit a 10% of the whole building. The building is the second biggest in the world and holds an impressive history in its construction (eg./ only for its cleaning needs a staff of 800 people). The guide did not want to respond what's the use of the 90 netters bunker underneath and the tunnels that connect the building across the city.

“A big, very big House!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2012

Built in the time of Ceausescu's era, this enormous building is very impressive.
For sure you will enjoy a tour inside with a professional guide.
Also the views from the open air balconies are great!

“Incredible. Unfortunately built in the bad days (of Ceausescu) but incredibly impressive.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2012

I suggest that before you visit, you should read the following webpage:
IMPORTANT! You will NOT be allowed entry unless you have with you a passport, or another government supplied form of ID.
The building is huge. There is as much below ground as is visible from Parcul Izvor. So, you should allow at least half a day for the visit.
Despite the undertones of being built on command of a communist dictator, the tour can give an extremely wide view of Romania, past and present. Your experienced tour leader will tell all. The tours are separated into several languages. It is best to enquire beforehand. Ask at your hotel reception how to get in touch. If they cannot help you, then change hotels!
PLEASE, do not think this building is a good symbol of Romania. Regard it as a slice of modern history. History is not always wine and roses, it is littered with dictators and infamy.
Judge this building only for what it is, an extremely impressive sight.
Also, if you need wheelchair access, book in advance.
Do not bring with you any excess baggage. You cannot drag it around with you up and down the many stairs. I am sorry, but the tour is not good for easily bored children or babies.

“World 2nd largest building (size)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2012

It is very impressive. Once, it held 7 world records at the same time.
During 9/11 attacks, while the Pentagon wing was demolished, it was the biggest building in the world.
Visiting it, you will find out amazing and very shocking details about Ceausescu, communist era, Russia/China/Korea influence and also about the regime's fears. For example, the building has no ventilation system, due to Ceausescu's fear of being gas poisoned. Another is that the main stairs were build and demolished and built again for 3 times. This because Ceausescu wanted to be able to run on them from the top office to the basement bunker in less than the time an US air missile would have reached the building. And many more...
