I suggest that before you visit, you should read the following webpage:
IMPORTANT! You will NOT be allowed entry unless you have with you a passport, or another government supplied form of ID.
The building is huge. There is as much below ground as is visible from Parcul Izvor. So, you should allow at least half a day for the visit.
Despite the undertones of being built on command of a communist dictator, the tour can give an extremely wide view of Romania, past and present. Your experienced tour leader will tell all. The tours are separated into several languages. It is best to enquire beforehand. Ask at your hotel reception how to get in touch. If they cannot help you, then change hotels!
PLEASE, do not think this building is a good symbol of Romania. Regard it as a slice of modern history. History is not always wine and roses, it is littered with dictators and infamy.
Judge this building only for what it is, an extremely impressive sight.
Also, if you need wheelchair access, book in advance.
Do not bring with you any excess baggage. You cannot drag it around with you up and down the many stairs. I am sorry, but the tour is not good for easily bored children or babies.
