“Back to the golden age of Bucharest”
Reviewed October 13, 2011

The hotel has a luxurious decor, that will lead you back to the golden age of Bucharest in the early nineteen century. The room is large enough, with all you need to have a good stay. The location is the best possible, in the center of the main sights of Bucharest, but a little far from the metro station, wich doesn't mean a problem because go to anywhere by taxi is not expensive. The restaurant has a very professional staff, and every night you may have a dinner hearing a very good live music.

I have been staying at Grand Hotel Continental during my last trip to Bucarest. Hotel is situated in the center of Bucarest, Calea Victoriei in front of Novotel and in a quite place. The outside look of the hotel reminds you of early 40's and 50'sm very classic style. The inside is also in a classic style. I was a lucky guest and so for the price of a standard room I was given an apartment. Rooms are VERY classic.. a little bit kitsch to some extent. Marble and moquette on the floor. Beds are ok, furnitures are antique (and sometimes not very functional) style. I used the sauna downstairs, and that was good. Gym is just a room with 3-4 machines, nothing more, did not try jacuzzi. I was satisfied with the hotel for the price I paid, but if you can afford some 40-50€ more, I would not recommend to stay at Continental

Very good Gotel. It is centrally located only a few minutes walk from the old town. Rooms were very good and newly renovated

Stunning hotel in the middle of Bucharest. Despite the city centre location, this was extremely peaceful and quiet.

Rooms are vary spacious, immaculately clean and very well equipped. Food and service very good also.

A beautiful hotel, highly recommended!

A truly beautiful hotel in Bucharest, this was recommended to me buy local friends and friends that had also stay here.
The food was great with a wide choice available. The staff are friendly and professional and willing to help.
The hotel is ideally situated in the centre of Bucharest but is quiet and quite a hidden secret.
The rooms are modern but still have traditional charm.
Minor things were i had booked with booking.com and on arrival, even though this was confirmed, etc by them and i had the booking reference number, it still took quite a while to book in and the manager had to sort it out.
As mentioned by another reviewer, the water is warm in the rooms but nots hot. Its fine but if you like a really hot bath then be aware but this is the only minor point.
The area is steeped in local modern history too, right on your doorstep.
My wife and i were here for our anniversary weekend and i would not want to stay anywhere else in Bucharest afterthis trip, beautiful.

Beautiful hotel:

-The rooms were fantastic, very comfortable, well equipped.
-The restaurant served fantastic food at good times.
-Staff were consistently outstandingly helpful.
-Surrounded with restaurants and decent bars and fairly easy to get to on public transport. (Romanians still smoke in bars so make sure you have clothes you don't mind smelling for the rest of your trip)

The hotel is relatively newly opened so seemed rather quite but that was fine for us, there were no noise issues or anything to complain about really. Highly recommended.

This hotel bills itself as five stars, which it is not. The reception and concierge staff are exceptionally pleasant, but there are some annoyances. I checked in late after my suitcase had failed to make the connection. I'm allergic to feathers and so had called ahead to ensure that the room would have no feather bedding. Despite this, it still had feather pillows. The night staff did their best to help (very nice people) but struggled to find a synthetic pillow. They also didn't have any toothbrushes. These are things that I'd expect most well run three star hotels to get right every time.
The bathroom is quirky, but the "slab" sink is a silly example of supposed style winning over sense and the hot water is more warm than hot.
I've stayed at this hotel before and it has some very good features, but yet it unfortunately messes up on some of the basics, and seems to get things wrong in annoying way (eg there's a kettle in each room, but it won't fit under the sink tap to fill it). It's way more stylish and interesting than the Novotel immediately over the road, but the Novotel can be more relied upon to get the basics right. For the time being, I'd recommend the Novotel. If the management of this hotel can change a few things, it could be great. But it's not there yet.
