“Posh hotel but some surpises!”
Reviewed May 10, 2014

A very nice 5 star hotel with all the things one would expect from the name and the price for a one night business trip. Lovely decor, good high-end shopping, at least three restaurants, good sized rooms with comfy beds, and so on. A bit surprised I had to pay quite a lot for 24 hours of Wifi access. The room had a nice view towards the Ministry of Defence and the Parliament building and I had a lovely (if over-generous, American portion control?) meal in the Italian in-house restaurant. It was a little pricey but quite acceptable with good friendly service. Lunch the following day was a fixed business menu in the same restaurant and was again good with good service.

Breakfast though was in the all American steak bar and was awful! Loads of people milling around, tables being cleared very slowly, almost entirely full up with Americans it seemed, with all the noise one might expect! I never managed to get a hot drink - the waitresses were so busy they never got to me sitting at a high bar seat being the only one I could find available. Clearly those "in the know" managed to get into a separate side area which was more peaceful and seemed to have first class service. Didn't try to get too much food because of the queues and hassle from the guests. Left me with a dislike of my fellow man when met in "bulk"!

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms would be quieter but no real issues.

I visited Bucharest for a week for a business trip. I stayed in JW Marriot and I was really surprised with how many things the hotels offer you. The rooms are amazing and very comfortable. The air conditioner was very weird though, The first night I couldn't sleep because of coughing the second night the same. Then I turned off the aircondition and I had a great sleep. The food and the staff there are amazing. Looking forward to my next visit in Bucharest.

Room Tip: Make sure that you will eat at the stake house in the hotel

This is the only hotel I am reviewing for the second time, first because the new stay provided even deeper experience and second because this was the special new year eve experience.

I arrived on the 31st at noon and despite the typical feast rush at the hotels, I was quickly checked in into a room of my liking. Whilst at the check in I enquired about the special event, if any, they have prepared at the hotel for the New Year eve. I was informed that actually they have prepared a gala event with different fashion themes at 2 of the ballrooms and 2 of the restaurants. As I asked for more details, a lady responsible for the event came and she took me to show all the rooms and describe what the event would be like. Anyway, I chose the italian theme at the italian restaurant.

In the afternoon I went to the swimming pool. Seems my only complaint is that the swimming pool is too small for such large hotel and esp on a busy day, the pool was frustratingly fool. Went back to the room and around 9:30 pm went to the restaurant.

The lobby of the hotel and the mezzanine floor were well decorated and provided for the spirit day. At the italian restaurant I was cordially greeted and shown to my table. The band was a bit loud and not exactly my type of music but okay for the start. A bit later the band changed. The food was on buffet. The selection was spectacular italian/med-french selection of sea food, game (deer), foie gras, various cheese, salads, appetizers, various pork, beef and lamb culinaries.. very good. There was a free flow of soft drinks and liquor, can't comment on this selection as I was sticking only to chivas.

At 12 we went in front of the lobby for the countdown, and this was a chance to see that the other restaurants and ball rooms have been full too and most of the people well very well dressed and good to share a lough with. The hotel has prepared a glass of sparkling wine for the 12 o'clock. A band was on stage in front of the lobby and they've led the show. At 12 there was a lot of fun, noise, fireworks, greetings and high spirit. Then back upstairs where actually the doors between the restaurants opened and there was also a middle stage at the mezzanine, so everybody could start moving from place to place and seeing more people. Stayed until 3, met some new people, had a lot of fun.

Next day came downstairs for the amazing breakfast just to find out that there was no sign of the earlier night feast. They've managed in no time to put everything back in place. Stayed for another day and checked out.

Bottom line is, the hotel offers a good option for meeting New Year and special events, strongly recommended if one ends up in the region on such day.

We had a room on the back on level 5 which was very quiet, clean and spacious especially the bath room.
The staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble- we were having problems with a machine in the hotel to change euros to the local currency and the lady on reception was most helpful and took us and showed us what to do. The breakfasts were excellent and we ate in the Italian Restaurant two evenings and were very satisfied with the food, service and cost. The hotel is well situated to visit sights and we used the metro which was convenient to the hotel- Parliament Palace is very near and we went on a tour here which we booked ourselves on arrival and had to wait about an hour but it was well worth it.

The Hotel is an easy taxi ride from everything that Bucharest has to offer; it is, as expected, with a JW, very clean and efficient. Used the concierge a few times and they were very knowledgeable and helpful. Rooms were spacious and bedding very comfortable. Restaurants and bars were very nice and affordable. Would stay there again if I were ever in Bucharest again!

This hotel is right across from the Parliament Palace. This is a grand hotel in the classic style - though it's so American-based, you wouldn't know you're in old Bucharest.

I've stayed here before. Restaurants are an American-style steakhouse, Cucina Italian, and Champs Sports Bar. Food in first & last was great. Service is very good. Hotel is clean and comfortable, but no "local atmoshpere" if that's important.

Room Tip: Face the Parliament building for the view
