Remember Cheers?:D That old TV series with the bar and the cheesy tune at the beginning of each episode... "Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got/ Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot/ Wouldn't you like to get away?/ Sometimes you want to go/ Where everybody knows your name/ and they're always glad you came." Well, that IS Simbio. The place where everybody knows your name, they sure ARE glad you came and not afraid to show it:)
It is quite possible that I am this place's biggest fan (though just one of their many), yet I hope you will find my review to be useful and spot on. Here it goes:)
I discovered Simbio in October 2011 and have been going there insatiably ever since. Located in the historical (and crazy crowded, massively intoxicated) center of Bucharest, this place stands out as different that everything surrounding it. As some of my fellow reviewers have said, it's got the good vibe. And it is such a strong one that it gets under your skin even before you set foot inside. All you need to do is take a peak out of the corner of your eye as you busily walk down the street and notice the people inside. Bam! You're hooked! You will want to go in. You will want to be one of those people. Simbio is all about people. The wonderful people who own it and the wonderful people that work for them and the ever so wonderful people that regularly come to Simbio for an impecable esspresso or a late breakfast or an exquisite, yet fuss free brunch.
It's not so much about the food, though the food IS great. It's not all and only about service, though the service IS friendly. It's about that sense of belonging that you get once you've befriended the place. The sense that you are being cared for and cared after:)
But make no mistake, Simbio offers a wide range of attractions even for the less sentimental client who is in it to eat it. It's pretty much a breakfast-brunch-smoothie-cocktails-wines-sandwhiches and salads kind of place. The food is freshly made. Even the episodic gourmet burgers which usually appear on the menu twice or three times a year are made from scratch (home made bun, baked potatoes, home made mayo and bbq sauce and so on).
First time @Simbio? Try the turkey ham sandwhich, the eggs (Benedict or Florentine) and the french toast topped with fresh fruit and berry-wine-sauce. Have a mimosa or a virgin smoothie (Antiaging and Energy Booster are my favorites!) to round up the experience. Come back. Rinse & repeat.
For the sake of being totally objective about a place I most subjectively love, yep, it IS small and yes, there's not a nonsmoking corner in the house. Sometimes, the service can take a lot. But the feel of it, the food, the friends you'll make, the coziness you'll find there if, say, you wanna work remote one crazy afternoon, all of these top any negatives you might find.
Simbio offers free wireless and various phone chargers to clients who want to stay always connected. It also offers a real opportunity to disconnect. It's open since early morning to late at night. It serves all day breakfast. The soup's good. The music's perfect.
Just go. And do allow yourself to fall in love with it;) And leave a message on a postit for me. Reading "Ana, you were right, we loved it!"
