I had to stay in Bucharest for 2 weeks, and Alexander Hotel had a geographical advantage.. The hotel is fine, staff is kind but the climate did not warm the room which made me sick because the weather was cold..
The breakfast was ok with enough choices etc..

This hotel is nice.

I'm just back from it.

In fact it is the same as the photos show. Rooms are spacious and clean. The SPA is good(it works from 1pm till 9pm during work days and every 2nd Saturday). The service is pretty good, everybody is polite and willing to help:reception, restaurant,SPA centre, cleaning(if you need to iron - just ask on the reception). The breakfast is pretty enough - you can order what is on the menu whether times you want...

Only bad is the situation. Too far from the centre and everybody should know that there are really too many stray dogs. You can reach it only by taxi - do not there to walk around.

The rooms were quite nice. But was quoted $146.00 for the room. We requested a rollaway bed, and then at check out was charged $125.00 for the rollaway. What a rip off! We could have gotten another room for that price.

I stayed here for a couple of nights during January 2011. I chose the hotel because the website indicated it to be by the airport...it was, before the airport relocated! However, the hotel is good enough to provide a courtesy pick-up and drop off service. My flights were at relatively antisocial hours, so I was very grateful for this service. The drive is roughly 15-20 minutes from the hotel, I was travelling at 23:40 and 06:45, it could take longer at peak times.
There is gate security on the hotel and an ATM onsite.
The lobby is pleasant and the welcome is friendly.
My room was very spacious with a separate dressing room and en-suite bathroom. The study area and sitting areas were partitioned from the sleeping area (enormous bed!) by strange beams on an angle but the overall effect worked quite well. There is a large window almost the full wall. I was not there during daylight hours so I really have no idea what the view from the window is like. It is possible to open one of the windows to let some air in - the room was very warm the first night but much cooler (thankfully) the second night. If you haven't been to Romania before it might take you some time to get used to the thousands of stray dogs roaming the streets. They can be noisy but with the window closed there isn't even any sound from the busy road nearby.
There is free internet in the room - ask for the cable at reception. Also provided are lovely bathroom toiletries, fluffy bathrobe and slippers. The mini bar is reasonably priced. Water from the tap is not recommended so you will need to buy from the mini bar. Reception staff encourage guests to phone down for anything they need rather than arriving in person, probably because they have a porter service. I don't know if tipping is expected; I tipped but didn't feel like it was expected.
There are spa facilities and a small gym area I think, but I did not use them.
The hotel is within a large business centre building called the Barbra Twin Towers.
I ate in the restaurant on one night and the food was very tasty and reasonably priced. The breakfast is table service, so if you are used to a buffet breakfast I would recommend you leave yourself a little more time. The menu offers everything from toast to eggs, even chocolate muffins.
Check out was very efficient and the receptionist was very friendly, even in the early hours of the morning! Payment is by euros or Romanian Leu. The hotel accepts credit cards but there are problems with the connection to the bank so be prepared to pay in cash. For 2 nights bed and breakfast plus 5 bottles of water from the mini bar, an evening meal and drink from the restaurant bar my bill came to 750 Romanian Leu which, at the current exchange rate is roughly £150.
I would recommend this hotel and when I am next working in Bucharest I intend to stay here.
