This B&B is clean and comfortable, with a lot of flowers put in the decoration, the staff friendly and helpful, breakfast correct and the location is fine: we walked back from Caru cu Bere, a restaurant that should be visited if you're looking for traditional Romanian food in a beautiful setting.

I was really hoping to be able to write a glowing review for Flowers, mainly because my first impression from the staff was so positive. A delightful young woman ran to greet us, grabbed more suitcases than seemed necessary and scampered with them up the outside stairs. Then she set about hand-drawing a detailed map of the neighborhood, complete with restaurants, bus stops and instructions on using the subway!

That great reception, however, conflicted headlong with a cramped, noisy room, not three meters from the reception desk, from where every conversation and ringing phone penetrated into our room, hardly obstructed by the thin door. Later we were told they had better rooms, but the heaters weren't working in them.

Some of the problems showed a simple lack of interest. The soap dish in the shower was an actual dish on the floor. The thin white curtains in our room were no match for the powerful street lamp just outside. Let's just say we didn't need a nightlight.

Breakfast was basic. Fried eggs turned up sporadically, as did ham.

The neighborhood itself is fairly interesting, in part because a few lovely old buildings survive (often in distress), in part because of the astonishing stretches of ugliness that Communism's finest architects served up. However, we couldn't find a restaurant with a no-smoking section (and the staff didn't know of any).

Still, if you just need a couple of budget nights in Bucharest, Flowers is a serviceable choice.

It's about a fifteen minute walk to a central Metro stop in a interesting neighborhood with a mix of beautiful old architecture and commie bloc concrete madness. The rooms are very clean and the decor is simple and perfectly nice. It's not luxurious but it's sane and lovely.

As an added bonus (perhaps) it's where the Peace Corp seems to send a lot of their people when they come in from the field, so if you want to get the perspective of people who have been in the country for a period of time, speak the language, are interacting with people on a daily basis, and are also actively engaged in coming to an understanding of the culture you can strike up a conversation and perhaps get an interesting perspective. If you don't that's fine and you can feel perfectly private there, it's not a social environment.

Please note that when I describe the neighborhood as interesting it's interesting by Bucharest terms -- a mix of the beautiful and the ugly, the dilapidated and the new; there is poverty in the area (in bits and pieces) but it never felt unsafe to me and I came back after dark many times.

We found the location to be fairly acceptable in this sprawling city, but the immediate neighborhood was a bit dodgy, and a few ominous stray dogs -- best to return to the B&B before dark. Room was relatively small and up in the attic (no lift!) and the breakfast room was a tiny basement nook inadequate for the total number of rooms. Staff were OK; more hostel like than B&B.

The B&B is very centrally located in a quiet neigbourhood near Calea Mosilor, about 10 minutes walking from the old center. The owners are very friendly and helpful. They arranged a taxi to pick us up at the airport. The rooms are clean, with shower, and satelitte TV. The only downside is the dining room, hidden away under the stairs in the cellar. According to me, the B&B must be the best alternative ( price/qualitywise ) in Bucharest. There is a mini market on the other side of the street, and several restaurants really close.
Definitely recommendable!
