“Monday Morning Wine Tasting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2013

By 11 am, we were already being treated to accordion and violin music following the cellars tours. Enjoyed 7 different wines with an assortment of elegant treats. What a way to start a week!

“Truly amazing wine collection in a former lime stone mining facility”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2013

The Milestii Mici wineries, 30 minutes’ drive outside the city of Chisinau is well worth a visit for anybody with an interest in wines. The entrance looks very much what it used to be, a lime stone mining site and processing unit. When the door opens you may not be aware of the fact that there are 60 km (!) of tunnels behind that entrance, going via winding and narrow mining roads, so everybody with claustrophobic tendencies should be aware of that. Well, well, I am from a Luxembourg wine town and a visit at a local winery in Moldova definitely was on the schedule. As the tunnels go far in underground you need to get there with a taxi or have a car to get in, and you need to know how to take the sharp turns in the mining roads, if you drive yourself. You cannot walk your way in to visit the attraction!

Once entering the facilities you will stop at different stations, to see some cutting machinery from the limestone mining time, some different kinds of barrels etc., but it gets really interesting in the real caves way in the mountain where you see white wine bottles from the late 1980:s and beginning of the 1990:s stored. The temperature down there is constantly approx. 12 centigrade. It is quite dusty there, so don’t wear something you don’t want dust on and wear comfortable shoes.

After a tour into the facilities you suddenly arrive at a place with marble stairs, sculptures etc. and it just looks like some place to sit down and rest and that was the tour. No, at the end of the room there is a stone door that opens and behind that a fancy wine tasting room, with chandeliers, a high ceiling etc. where you can make reservations for a wine tasting, including dinner, and with local musicians playing. Not only the wine, but also the food was delicious! Too bad they had a schedule that we could not leave according to our own schedule.

Some words concerning the English skills of the guides, as some reviews address that issue: Don’t think the guides can’t speak English – I had a conversation with two of the guides, and they do not only understand English perfectly well, they also speak English well, if they want I guess.

A visit in the Milestii Mici wineries is a must for any visitor to Chisinau, and in particular for any true wine enthusiast!

“huge collection of wines, interesting, but be careful with wine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2013

Very interesting place, you can book a tour in any language. Price depends on how many trips to the wine tasting, you can book a tour without tasting. There are guided tours for vegetarians. The prices for all kinds of excursions can be found on the website.
When choosing excursions evaluate your health and strength!
Disadvantage: - Tour does not include delivery to the cellars. Need to search for a car or a taxi and negotiate a price.
  - The price of food is high. Food is ordinary and not worth the money. But to taste wine without food is unreal.

“Strange, and amazing place, unique in the world...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013

This place does not need any review, is included in the Guinness Book. It is like a cave tour but only with the bus. A fabulous restaurant 82 meters underground...Unique wines....in the world...Do not miss "TRANDAFIRUL MOLDOVEI" wine. Unique sweet wine, not so expensive regarding its quaities.
A really interesting experience.

“Be Careful Here”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2013

This is one of the only real tourist attractions in Moldova but be very careful here if you don't speak Russian or Romanian. They will raise prices on you last minute. 2 minutes before the tour starts they will inform you (if they hear you speak English) that they need more money or you can't go on the tour.

The tour itself is very brief, it's interesting but certainly not worth the time or cost. The English is very poor. The available wine is basically the cheapest stuff they have.

This place tends to stand out since it really is one of the only sort of nice things to do in Moldova, but it's not really worth it.
