Best Western Premier Hotel Astoria

My husband and I traveled throughout Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Slovenia during our 2-week vacation. Best Western in Zagreb was our last stop before flying back to the states. It was the BEST hotel we stayed in during our trip. The ammenities were superb! Clean, roomy, luxurious rooms with a coffee maker and toiletries, free wifi in rooms, a business center with two computers and a printer that is free of charge, complimentary iced tea, coffee, cookies in the lobby, complimentary ice water with lemon near the elevator, wonderful breakfast with a wide variety including sparking wine and a wide range of condiments, and super nice front desk reps who were very helpful in answer questions. Not sure about parking since we returned our rental as we arrived and walked back to the hotel. They also had fresh apples and candies at the front desk for guests to enjoy.

When we checked out, Tibor helped us and he was kind to call us a cab to the airport which we were told was 110 kuna, but when we asked the cab driver again, he quoted only 100 kuna (the hotel has a a special contract with cab company so they won't cheap ya). The cab driver was so nice and honest, so we gave him a reasonable tip. Tibor was kind to exchange some of our bigger bills to coins for souvenir (we heard they will soon change to euro).

The location was pretty decent and we were able to walk to all the major sites. What an absolute great find! We highly recommend this hotel if you're going to Zagreb.

This is part of a continuing series of my impressions and experiences staying at various hotels and resorts while traveling to attend concerts worldwide. This stay was during my extension trip throughout Eastern Europe and London in May and June 2013. This review is for the Best Western Premier Hotel Astoria.

I arrived at this hotel via rental car, and finding it was straight forward, and there was short term parking in front to allow for an easier check-in, which went fairly smoothly.

They actually have their own parking lot behind the hotel, accessible via the street behind. They provide a designated parking spot based on the size of your car, and you can then walk into the hotel via rear access, so all of this was very convenient.

The hotel is kind of older and dated, but nice enough and clean.

The room was on the small side (even by European standards) with a very small desk at the foot of the bed.

The bathroom was relatively larger, and fairly nice.

The view out of the window was basically looking at the exterior wall of an adjacent building.

There is a restaurant on site and some other amenities, but I did not have the time to explore them.

The location is really nice for Zagreb, with many, many places to explore that are all walking distance.

I would stay here again, though it is kind of pricey for what you get (which affects my overall score).

I wasn't expecting much from this hotel, as Best Westerns have never stood out for me as a great place to stay, but this one certainly has changed my mind. It isn't much from the outside, but the moment you step inside that changes. It is an elegant old world charmer with polished wood and plush chairs; just beautiful! Our room was a very good size, with one of the most comfortable beds on our trip. The breakfast buffet is excellent with selections of hot and cold items that should please everyone. I wouldn't hesitiate in recommending this hotel.

We stayed at the Best Western in Zagreb with our college age daughter. It was wonderful: clean and nice rooms, free parking, very helpful and accommodating staff, with a wonderful breakfast in the morning. This hotel is within walking distance to parks, museums, and wonderful little restaurants. There are sights to see throughout this charming city. The people were friendly and helpful everywhere we went. After a day of looking at the sights it was a pleasure to come back to this hotel and relax before venturing out again for the evening. Great place to stay. Only glitch was figuring out that the key card was inserted inside the room by the door to keep the lights, air, and shutters up. The key stays in during the time one is in the room but the lights and shutters can be turned off/up and up/down with switches.

Arrived here after a very long train ride from Munich tired and hungry. The hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful in checking us in quickly and suggesting good local restaurants but we decided to eat dinner in the hotel after freshening up in our room. Our room was amazing, large, well-appointed and very quiet, even though it faced the road. Our dinner was very tasty, reasonably priced and served by extremely charming waiters. Over the next couple of days there were many other occasions where the front desk staff were very helpful, we were very impressed by them. As other reviews have said this hotel is very well located with everything in easy walking distance. Very highly recommended.

Room Tip: Our room on the third floor was large and luxurious but not that expensive.

There is so much to like about this hotel. Driving in is easy and parking is in a secure lot right in the back of the building. During our three week trip, no hotel came close to providing such an amazing breakfast buffet, it was a composite of everything I've ever seen offered for breakfast! Very classy interior with everything you need. Great wi-Fi. Easy walk to town through the green horseshoe (Park). Zagreb was much more enjoyable than anyone of us expected, the beauty of this city is extraordinary.

This hotel has a super location with so many things within easy walking distance. It is also close to main train station and tram depot. Easy walk to the main square, funicular, and sites in the old city.
The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. The dinner buffet had a wide selection of choices, the breakfast buffet which is included in the room price was exceptional. There are nice touches throughout: a coffee/tea bar in the lobby with little crumpets, and a refreshing lemon/water dispenser available at any hour near the elevator. I would say that sometimes it is a problem to only have one elevator, but the staircases are wide, and there are only six floors for rooms.would definitely go back to this hotel!

Room Tip: Upper floor..5 or 6 is best
