“Amazing view of everything!”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

The castle per se is not that amazing, but it offers you an amazing view over Zagreb (It's a little far away), and it's worth the journey, because it's not the easiest place to get too. You can smell nature up there and it's also very quiet and calm.
I leave you some details about how to get there, and some photos. They should a little movie about the castle.
Admission fee: 15kn (+- 2€), - CLOSED ON MONDAYS -, rest of the days from 11am to 6pm.
How to get there (I'm gonna give a couple options, assuming you are in the town center and you don't have a car):

Catch the tram number 08 or 14 to MIHALJEVAC (You need to exit in the last stop which is MIHALJEVAC).
From MIHALJEVAC you have two options (I did them both):

1º You can catch the BUS number 102 to BRITANSKI TRG (You need to exit in SESTINE right next to a church, and ask where the Medvedgrad Castle is) and you can walk your way to the castle, if you have a quick pace like myself you should make it in +- 1h30m (I did this with 36º, there are better things in life i can assure you, and i love to walk).

2º In MIHALJEVAC, i just take one of those Taxis that are there, and you pay less than 50kn (+- 6.70€), i paid 45kn and i'm a tourist! I strongly recommend you this way, it's super fast, cheap, and you don't break a sweat.

“First castle visit”
Reviewed May 9, 2012

Since I don't have anything to compare it to, I don't know how it rates overall, but it was great for my family. There is a small fee for entering and the people working there were available to answer questions if you wanted to ask. We toured at our own pace and my boys had fun playing "castle" and exploring. The views were spectacular. There is a small gift shop and video room. There are also restrooms and a vending machine with water, beer, soft drinks and snacks. I know there are probably more impressively designed castles, but my kids were pleased and that pleased me. It is a long, winding trek up by car. You will want to include other things in your day besides just the castle up there.

“Medvedgrad - beautiful refreshment during summer months”
Reviewed April 29, 2012

If you happen to visit Zagreb during summer months, and you have a spare day wondering around, you may choose to visit the medieval fort of Medvedgrad. The road to Medvedgrad is limited to car transport only, so you may take cheap taxi Cameo to climb up and return walking down using public transport. This is due to the fact that road descending from the mountain in going in only one direction. If you are able to do some hiking, you may use the public transport as well: Take bus number 102 at Britanski square heading to the church in Sestine, and then continue on foot following the hiking trail no.12 (from Lagvic to Medvedgrad).
The fort is now converted into a museum so there is a ticket of 15kunas to be paid at the entrance. It is not a large fort but 13th century fortification located at the hilltop on southern slopes of Medvednica. It was built after the invasion of the Tartars. This fort has had a turbulent history accompanied by many stories and legends out of which the most famous is the one about Crna Kraljica (Black Queen-Barbara Celjska- the wife of the King Sigismund) who had ordered her young lovers to be executed after she would get bored with them.
In the yard there is a nice octagonal chapel of St.Filip and Jacob which was reconstructed. The restaurant is unfortunately closed so you will not be able enjoy local specialty –strukle- but you may then descend to restaurant Lagvic and taste them there. In 1994 famous sculptor Kovacic has built and interesting coat of arms “Altair of Homeland” erected in honor of all Croatian heroes. The monument is a coat of arms of Croatia, made of stone cubes proceeding from all parts of Croatia with blue tears symbolizing the difficult history.
Working hours are : weekends only from 11 am to 6pm, otherwise you should check by phone 0038514572071.

“Eternal build up to the M-castle”
Reviewed December 28, 2011

They're patching up the old fortress for years and can't seem to finish it still. Oh, the view from this old lady is simply amazing. There's a restourant there and the temperatures are lower then in the city itself. Medvedgrad is the first settlement in Zagreb although the city developed 'under it'.If you're coming to Zagreb during summer you might hop up to the hills (fresh air and water) and have a bottle of chilled vine(or beer, Tomislav is home brand dark beer and some say it suits them better then Guiness) to cool off. Besides that there is a national flag there and an 'eternal torch' for our countryman who died in Homeland war. Still it's nothing to be depressed about since, as a tourist you should only concern yourself with the view&vibe&fun. Although please be advised when dark falls you shouldn't be wandering alone about the hills&mountains. There aren't any grizzlies or crazies but you might trip and hurt yourself;)
