The upper and lower sections of Zagreb are easy to visit in just a day. We usually explore the center square, outdoor market then work our way to the upper city. Wear comfortable shoes for walking, some paths are steeper than others and there are cobble stone roads/paths in both the uppper and lower sections.

Go on the funicular really cute! Nice for a walk around and a view go to the north gate to see the shrine of the Virgin Mary really beautiful.

There's a lot to see and do in the upper town. Beginning at the fortress at the top of the hill, there are some beautiful churches (the rooftile work is intriguing), then the passageway through to the center pedestrian street of shops and bistros, the Cathedral, the large produce and flower markets, the musuems (Broken Relationships and the Naive Art). If you time your walk right, you just might encounter the lamplighter and his son who turn on the gas jets in the oldest part of town about 30 minutes before dusk.

walls, stones, streets, all telling its history. We liked very much old Gradec and Kaptol, the oldest parts of Zagreb. It's very misterious, charming and amazing! To visit!

This part of Zagreb is well worth a visit. The shops are excellent and there are plenty of restaurants. But it is the buildings and museums that are so fantastic. Equally on a par with Prague and Amsterdam. I can recommend Zagreb to any person who enjoys culture.
