The most visible landmark of Zagreb is situated in the eastern part of the historical centre. The Cathedral is very high and really beautiful both from the outside and inside. Apart from two sky-high towers (of which one is still under reconstruction), you notice a wonderful detailed portal.
The nice interior, though it' dark, is full of various statues, paintings, and inscriptions, many of them connected to the Croatian National Revival. The importance of the Cathedral for the Croatian nation is underlined by relics of the Cardinal Aloysius Stepinac placed behind the altar.
There were many people (both tourists and natives), but the church didn't lose its spiritual atmosphere. At the time we visited it, it also served as a shelter from a heavy rain.
When you happen to be in Zagreb, take your time to see this architectural jewel!
