“Hip design, great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2013

Simple and clean little room in stylish hip design and sufficiently equipped with key amenities such as water kettle and hairdryer. Size of double room is small but sufficient even with two mid-sized luggage. Location is excellent, just a couple mins from Jelacic Square, so close that we actually go back twice in a day to drop off/pick up stuffs.
They have a receptionist in the day time so its easy to get help, unlike other apartments where the host only show up at check in. A city guide and dining recommendations are written in chalk on the blackboard wall at the reception which is really cute. We tried out one of the recommended restaurant though which turned out to be somewhat over-rated and service was poor.

Very nicely decorated, comfortable and clean. The blackboard wall will information was a nice touch. And it is very well located, close to the old town. Agree with the comment though that the restaurant recommendation was not so great - we walked by, it did not look appealing so we ended up eating on a terrasse on Tkalciceva street in the old town which was very pleasant.

Our room was spotless, and everything (shower, beds, lights) was of good quality. There were lots of electric sockets so we could re-charge all our electronic gear - really welcome! The reception (only manned in the day) was really helpful, and they had made a huge blackboard with suggestions about things to see, where to eat, publc transport etc. It was really useful. Other people we met were all happy with their rooms too. The best thing is the location, which is bang in the middle of Zagred. Note that in June 2013 the doorbell to get you into the apartment didn't work properly - we had to phone them to get let in.

Room Tip: It doesn't matter, you'll spend most of your time exploring Zagreb. All the rooms are small...

Everything was great, the welcome, the location, the apartment was amazing, clean, bright and big, centrally located. You can park on site and just walk downtown. We were 3 adults and 2 kids and we had enough room. The kitchen has the essential if you need to cook.

Enjoyed our stay in a lovely, affordable room off the main square. Helpful staff. Close to all attractions. I would have chosen a different restaurant than was primarily suggested. It was a tourist trap.

It seems that Zig Zag is managing quite a few different apartments in the city. There were the 4 of us and we tried to book a two-bedroom apartments but those were fully booked for the 2 nights we required, so we went for the three-bedroom apartment instead. The apartment is very nice and spacious, air-conditioned and located at a very convenient location, closed to the Old Town, restaurants and shopping. It is even within walking distance to the main train and bus station, but it is not advisable to walk the distance if you are with big luggages, especially the bus station which is at least 2-3 km away. Take a taxi instead, only about 30 Kuna. The apartment is housed in an older building, but still has an elevator, thanks God, otherwise we would have to carry our luggages up to the 3rd floor.

Don't get me wrong, it is a very nice apartment and I would recommend it to my friends, but there are a few points one has to take note of to stay there:

1/ it is an apartment, not a hotel, although they could meet you at the apartment to give you the key (contact them half an hour before arrival) but if you arrive before their check-in time like we did, you would have to check-in and leave our luggage at the office instead. When the apartment was ready later, we had to transport the luggages to the apartment itself (lucky that it just stopped pouring with rain when we did that), it could be quite a nuisance for people who need to check-in early;
2/ there is only one bathroom to share among 3 bedrooms although it does have an extra toilet, so there could be a lot of waiting if one has a big group (i think it could accommodate up to 8 people);
3/ there was no washing powder to go with the washing machine, and there was only the one roll of toilet paper in each toilet, once finished (and it would becasue as an apartment, it only has cleaning service once every week) but the lady at the reception did show us where to buy.

If you are live with those, go ahead and enjoy the apartment and the city of Zagreb!!!!!

We stayed in Zigzag for only one night, but we will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Zagreb. The location is perfect: walking distance to the train and bus stations and minutes from the main square and the old city. This was the funkiest and most stylish of all the apartments we stayed in in Croatia.

Be aware that this type of accommodation, like everywhere we stayed in Croatia, is not a traditional hotel but an actual apartment with kitchen. You have to arrange a time to meet up with the owner-operators to get the key, and you are pretty much on your own after that, although you can always reach someone by email or phone if you need anything. We had trouble getting the key to work, for example, and Mia came right over to help us.

Be prepared to pay cash for your accommodation in Croatia. None of the apartments we stayed in, whether in Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, or Zadar, took credit cards.
