“Rude and loud.”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

This hostel is very close from the central train station, and 15min. walking distance form the central bus station. The hostel presents itself terribly, as the facade of the building is mostly collapsed or barely holding-onto itself. The whole street is in poor conditions, and many buildings were in similar situation, although all together, the area appeared safe. The interior of the hostel is on the contrary, rather new and appealing as all the furniture is new and colors are combined gracefully. From the window, we had a romantic view of the flowers of a nearby garden.

The stay in this hostel revealed a disappointment, mostly because of the quality of sleep and of privacy. Indeed, you could here any conversations of other guests without any true impediment, and the sounds form the bathroom tormented us continuously during our stay. In general sleeping was very hard, since people used bathroom until late and during the night, and was constantly in poor hygienic situation due to the heavy usage. The service revealed very rude when we discovered that an alternative bathroom was intentionally made unavailable (by locking the door) in order to force the guests to use exclusively one facility. There was a constant line of people waiting for the bathroom. Upon specific request, they finally unlocked the other bathroom... very rude. On saturday night, nearby club or somebody's party had loud music until late and of course, everything was audible from our room. When that finally was over, it was the turn of evil birds in the nearby gardens checking on our window from very early in the morning...

Don't go there. You will not sleep, and in the end, it's not even a cheap place.

My boyfriend and I were travelling by train from Budapest to Ljubljana and the train broke down and we ended up in Zagreb, at 11pm at night, no trains going on to Ljubljana and we had no where to stay. I looked up this hostel on hostelworld as it showed as having rooms free and being really close to the train station. My boyfriend and I met 4 Finnish girls in the same situation as us, stuck in Zagreb with no where to stay and so the 6 of us walked to this hostel and turned up just after 11pm.

We were greeted by a very friendly man on reception who managed to squeeze us all in. He was very flexible and nothing was too much trouble for him. The hostel is really new and everything is new and very clean. The beds are some of the most comfortable bunk beds I've ever slept in! They were proper, well built, wooden bunks. The beds were wide and actually spacious and the mattresses were thick and comfortable!

In the morning, there was an older woman on reception who was also really friendly. My boyfriend and I decided to get the lunch time train and spend the morning discovering Zagreb. The woman at reception was very helpful, showed us things to do and where to walk around. The hostel is a very short, 5 minute walk to the centre of town and even closer to the station. It's also very quiet at night and the bathrooms were really clean and everything was new and spacious.

I cannot thank this hostel enough for their hospitality and flexibility and also really recommend them for being so comfortable, clean and new! I wish more hostels would invest in beds like this, they really are a welcome change!
