“It's A Cemetery, SAVE YOUR TIME!”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

Of all my reviews, this is the first place I've been asked to be "politically correct" and to modify so as not to offend criminals rather than victims...anyway, here goes...FACT 1: my husband and I took a tour of Mirogoj Cemetery as part of a city tour. FACT 2: our local guide pointed out the grave of her "Father of Croatia" named DINKO SAKIC. FACT 3: he was tried, convicted and sentenced to life in prison for WWII war crimes where he died and was buried with FULL Nazi "honors" just 5 years ago! FACT 4: This is a cemetery with high profile people of Croatia. FACT 5: remembering this is CROATIA, it's quite understandable why one will find that the Jews and Serbs buried at the far end towards the right upon entering. ALL religions have impressive tombs...don't limit yourself to just the "Croatian" graves. But after visiting the graves of other "famous" or "infamous" people of the world such as Evita Peron in Argentina, this cemetery might be a good "entry level" place to visit in the world, but CERTAINLY not worth going out of the way to see.

“Impressive”

when I was told that I would visit the cemetery, I was not that excited. But this one is really different and full of Art works. It deserves a visit.

“Beautiful cemetery”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

This was a beautiful, touching cemetery with some very ornate tombstones. Full of lovely trees and sculptures and very impressive to look at. Definitely worth a visit. Only negative is that it is quite a walk up the hill to get there from the tram stop.

“very big cemetery”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

We visited Mirogoj as it is recommended to visitors to Zagreb. We got a bus outside the Cathedral. It is a very big cemetery full of interesting sculptures and lovely trees and shrubs. I preferred the cemetery at Varazdin as it has much more dramatic shrubbery.
