“Mixed feelings”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2012

We stayed two nights early October. I agree with several other reviews - great location, rooms were small but very clean and good value in terms of cost. The downside is the personality of the manager/ owner which resulted in an uncomfortable experience for us. Breakfast was OK if you are satisfied with bread roll, butter and jam plus coffee. The rest of the staff were fine although you got the impression they were working as 'robots' under their eccentric boss. I would recommend this hotel for what it is but only if others were not available.

We stayed at this hotel just 1 night, got there by luck with no reservation.
The location is awesome, very central. The design is very kitchy but we found it charming and kida cool. The rooms are rather small but we don't see it as a problem as we only need hotel rooms to sleep.
The guy at the reception (was he the owner? not sure) was very loud and weird, kept making jokes which was a bit awkward. Our room was close to the reception and while we were trying to get some rest, we heard him talking/shouting quite a bit.
The breakfast was... bad. Just skip it.

Overall if you just need a place to sleep I would recommend it as we enjoyed the room and the location, despite the loudness and the weirdness.

It was horrible.
We were just sitting in the lounge waiting for a taxi with our bags and the hotel owner burst in yelling at us and started throwing them out onto the entrance we tried to apologizes but he did not accept it.
The hotel owner was drunk a lot, the staff were very nice but very scared of the hotel owner.
There was cigarret smoke drifting into the window.
The hotel owner also tried to kiss one of the females we were traveling with.

We stayed here for two nights in may. It is 3 star and no more. The price is great, the rooms are clean but on the small side. We found the staff to be wonderful. They are quirky but friendly and helpful. We could not fault this place. The beds are comfortable and more than we expected. The included breakfast is basic but filling.

Okay, going to this hotel, is a trip back to the 70 / 80's (in terms of decoration and staff)... we went there for the price / location. It is fine if you want to be in the center of the city and nothing else is available (personnaly I doubt I would return there). It was rather clean (even though the floor is covered with carpet), the breakfast is just normally boring... nothing wrong with the hotel, but nothing nice either.

The place is not so new, the price is right for a night or two, the breakfast is not that great. The staff were friendly but the big plus is the lounge complete with original furnishings. It is a real piece of history that you do not find too often now.

Don't ever go to this terrible place! Such an unprofessional staff is the worst you can ever meet. In spite of the earlier reservation (and confirmation by mail, of course) and in spite of the confirmation by phone on the day of arrival, when I came to the hotel at 11.30 p.m., I was told there is no room available!!? It seems it is their regular practice... No need to comment other problems. Fortunately, I found a free room in a quite ok hotel (Laguna) in the middle of the night (past midnight!), and will never go back to the Hotel Ilica.
