The Westin Zagreb

Stayed at The Westin Zagreb for 2 nights as part of a KOMPAS Tour in early June. When we arrived at the hotel the room wasn't ready and we didn't gain access until 4.00pm. When we did get in the TV wouldn't work and it took two visits from a technician to fix the two problems. Not a good start.

Nevertheless the rooms are spacious and clean with good views over the city. The evening meal on the 17th Floor was quite good and the service was first class. The staff at reception were helpful as well. As noted by others the carpets need to be replaced. Certainly not up to scratch.

There is a 'casino' attached but the smoke in the air will be a real deterrent for most visitors. It's not a five star hotel but it's okay.

Dear Sirs, Thank you for staying at the Westin as part of your tour in the region. We apologize for the inconvenience with the TV. We are currently installing a new TV system which will provide many more channels and a wide film offer and other services. Glad you enjoyed the dinner on the 17th floor with the grand view of Zagreb. We will pass casino air ventilation issue to the casino operator. Thanks once again and a warm welcome back to Zagreb. Best regards, Gunnar Sanne

One of the best hotels we stayed in while visiting Croatia. The staff were attentive, sleep quality was good, hotel amenities were very good but the food was "OK". For GREAT food in any place you travel, I always suggest visitors venture out and see what you can find on your own...white table cloths OR not....little "nuggets" of goodness are sure to be found in any town if you're willing to be a little adventurous!

Though we had trouble finding the hotel with GPS, it was well worth the extra time. The hotel is wonderful, the staff is friendly and the food in the restaurant is great. The rooms were comfortable and the bathrooms very clean. We wished we could have stayed longer. Was easy walking into downtown from here.

Room Tip: The higher up you are, the better the view of the city.

The hotel reception staff were excellent at both check in and check out. They were very attentive and courteous.

The room was well appointed, spacious and good quality linens and towels. The bathroom had a good shower. There is also free wi-fi in the rooms. There is a business centre on the ground floor where you can print if you need to.

We had a good view over the city.

It's within walking distance of the main sights in the city and is near the tram stop.

To be recommended.

Room Tip: Ask one with a view to the old city.

I did not understand why SPG group has given this hotel the Westin Brand. It is maybe they have had Sheraton, Four points and they did not want to double those brands. As a SPG gold member, I have had been in some Westin hotels in many countries but none of them were like this one.
To be fair, this hotel is good and like some old Sheraton hotel I've stayed in European countries.
The location is suitable and you have access to major tram lines in Zagreb. Zagreb center is in a distance of 20 minute walking and major attractions nearby. There are supermarkets and kiosks nearby you can by Simcards or Tram tickets.
The checking process was quick. The room was big enough and the furniture was ok but not new. Bathroom was large too. It had a big pool in the underground. The breakfast was simple in comparison to Sheraton and Westin.

Since the price is not high, it can be a good choice in Zagreb but do not expect the luxury.

The Westin Zagreb, formerly known as Opera Hotel, is a convenient well-located hotel. Easily reachable on foot (approx 10 to 15 min) from both Train Station and the main ban Josip Jelacic square, where this city really pulses all day long.

Front desk staff are friendly and receptive. Check-in might be quite faster or simpler. At restaurant, however, I found them more protocolar than smiling.

Rooms are spacious and well equipped such as the bathroom. Showers had a good pressure. Bed and pillows were really comfortable making wake-up a really serious battle. But for my surprise, the air-conditioning didn't work during our entire 4-days stay. I pointed it out on the first day and I was told they had an issue with the central system that night and surely I would not have this kind of problem again. That was not what happened... Reading other guests' review complaining about the same matter I conclude their A/C system needs an urgently repair. It's also important to note that my room's device was apparently broken. Too bad for a 5-star hotel.

As noted before, I also had some issues with noise coming from outside or from side rooms. I was really annoyed when I was woken up before 6am by a guest seemingly doing his luggage to check-out.

Breakfast was huge and fresh. Lots of options to serve yourself. Food and drinks abound. Restaurant serves a nice meal and you can choose between a buffet-style or a la carte.

Despite some issues I metioned above, this is a good hotel to stay in Zagreb. Although it is showing some shades of time but I would probably stay there again if I come back.

Having stayed at Westin in Rome, on a tour, this was a disappointment. We were with another tour for this visit. The good news is the hotel is convenient to town, the bed comfortable and free wi-fi available. The bad is that the lamp shade wasn't even attached and hung at an angle (how could that be missed), the air conditioning dial didn't work (again how could that go unnoticed) so the room was hotter than we would have liked, the bath water took 1/2 hour to drain (again ....), the lighting in the bathroom was almost non existent and the room key was awkward to use. The water drainage was fixed, the other issues were commented on.
The breakfast buffet was good, our group dinner was not, very bland and dry.
We had difficulty doing an online flight check in and asked Reception to help to see if using their own language would help, and the male Receptionist told us he had never ever done an online check in.
