We stayed in Zagreb in transit from Split to Ljubljana and stayed at Funk Lounge. It was quite easy to find as we saw a poster with directions of which tram to get and when to get off at the train station (next to the ticket booth). The staff we friendly, the rooms were big and we had big lockers and a bathroom between the 4 of us in a 6 bed dorm. The kitchen was quite small but equipped with communal salt, oil and butter, always nice not to have to buy that yourself while en route! The only downside was that some travellers clearly arrived quite late and were shown into our room in the early hours of the morning, which involved a staff member switching the lights on a bringing them in, which we thought was a little insensitive as it was well past midnight.

The hostel Funk Lounge is located a few tram stops from the centre of Zagreb. Rooms are quite spacious and clean. Bathroom (ensuite) wasn't very clean, but we stayed there only two nights, so it was bearable. The staff is very professional, kind and helpful. They give you a map of the city and inform you about most important places to visit. You get welcome rakiya shot, too. Don't book a room with breakfast (3 eur more), since they've got a restaurant/bar next to the main entrance and you can it there whatever you want – whether you paid those 3 eur in advance or not. The food in the bar is tasty and not expensive. Zagreb in general is a nice city, and cheap, if you compare it to typically touristic places in Croatia like Dubrovnik, Makarska or Split. I can recommend the place. The only minus is not working (or working very slowy) wifi, which is, luckily free of charge.

My friend and I were due to arrive on Saturday 24 August 2013 at 11pm but due to a miscommunication regarding bus journey duration (from a previous hostel landlady) the bus took 15hours instead of an anticipated 8hrs. We arrived at 6am in the morning on Sunday 25 August 2013 and were given a great welcome.

The price for what you get is very good value.

It is called Funky Lounge and cannot believe it has not received more reviews here; this place was by far the best place I stayed in my European trip across four countries across the Balkans. I had the fortune to meet sisters Mia and Anya who work the reception, are very helpful and welcoming. I was suprised to find that customer service still existed and it is alive and kicking here.

Currently, is peak season and the place was full; we stayed in a pleasant 4 bed dorm with two others. This dorm had very comfortable beds and a great bathroom including heated towel rack which was useful for drying items.

There was a great common room with very comfortable sofa, flat-screen TV and laptop. Although, an unknown staff member kept on it using facebook which was not ideal.

The kitchen was useful and had all the usual facilities needed. There is a "DM" supermarket and "Dublin pub" close by. The main square is a short tram journey away using 11 or 12.

The place to be in Zagreb in my view.

Hvala (thank you) Mia and Anya if you read this.

Funk hostel is a perfect hostel for everyone who wants to enjoy a cheap but comfortable stay in Zagreb.
-There is a funk lounge where you can eat a decent meal or breakfast for a a very low price. (1,5e for an omelet, 3 euro for a pasta).
-The staff is young and helpfull.
- fast, free wifi and laptops you can use for free.
-You can take the tram which stops 1 minute from the hostel, and within 10 minutes you are in the centrum.

The only negative point was the pub crawl. The girl leading it was very kind but you just go to a few bars where no one is sitting. Only the last club is worth your time.

Nothing to complain about. Great, friendly and helpful staff; they will be always there for any issue. Besides, they own a little bar on the next door where you can order awesome local food while enjoying a fresh glass of beer. There is also a pub crawl at night, but the only night I stayed there we were only a few people, although Mark (a very nice australian guy who is in love with Zagreb) didn't want to let us down and showed us a great local brewery and later on we ended up at a great and underground party at their funk lounge club.

I even gave them a little present before my depart. So yes! I will surely repeat.

Though I stayed there for one night, I was taken aback by the staff friendliness and the overall vibe Funk Lounge offered.

Fun, relaxed and staff who goes that extra mile to make you comfortable (we arrived late and were told that the kitchen had been kept open for us and a few others) makes ALL the difference.

The bar next door is a great place to kick back and get a drink while getting a bite to eat. Clean dorms and well-lit dorms as well.

If I had to go back to Zagreb, it'll only be to stay at Funk Lounge again!

This was a lovely hostel! The people were friendly and helpful. The room was great, nice and clean and there were great facilities here. The only downside was that it was a bit far away from the city centre, about half an hour walk but the tram access is great!
The hostel had a bar crawl every night and had it's own club/bar/cafe with really cheap food!
