The cooking class with Stephen was the highlight for our annual mother-daughter trip this year in Croatia! We love cooking and always want to make a deeper connection to local people and food. The Strukli class taught us to make a delicious Croatian comfort dish and satisfied our curiosity to local produces and signature products. The class is set in a delightful kitchen above the famous Dolac Market. Chef Stephen shared his amazing foodie knowledge and world-travel stories in his fun cooking instruction and market tour. If you enjoy to travel like a local and appreciate the common humanity, this activity won't disappoint!

Dear Chunyan
It was my pleasure to host yourself and Steph (going to be a great chef by the way) on our Štrukli workshop. Im delighted that you both enjoyed the experience and left with a deeper sense of what food and life is like here in Croatia. I hope that the rest of your trip in Croatia was filled with food, wine and laughs and that you have some new ideas for new recipes to try out when you get home. Keep doing what you are doing, enjoying life and cooking with friends, nothing is quite as good for the soul as this.
Safe travels
Stephen

Karmela met us at 10 am as promised and toured us through the markets telling us about the products on sale. We saw parts of the market we would have otherwise missed. Her beautiful kitchen was a short stroll away. We cooked, shared stories and a few glasses of wine whilst eating our creations. This was a great way to spend a few hours learning more about Croatian cuisine and Karmela was a delight to meet. We greatly enjoyed our 3 course cooking class!

Although there was some mix-up with the booking, Carmela met with us and offered several alternate times for our tour/class. We chose a 5 pm class and spent the next 3 + hours in a fascinating culinary/cultural/historical activity that included the hands-on strukli creation, a tour of the surrounding areas, coffee and beer in a bistro while the food was baking and a casual conversation with wide-ranging topics over a deliciously paired local wine as we sampled our food. The strukli was superb.
Carmela packed our leftovers, then emailed the recipe as well as recommendations for our pending coastal trip to Zadar and Dubrovnik. She was a delightful hostess.
We would highly recommend this activity to anyone interested in local cuisine, culture, history and stimulating conversation!

This was a phenomenal experience! Karmela was professional and endearing as she led us through each recipe as we spent the day together. We have taken many cooking classes before , yet this one out shines them all. We made braised chicken with eggplant, red bell pepper and tomatoes. For a starter we made cucumber potato soup which is delicious hot or cold. It is topped off with sour cream and fresh dill before serving, yum! And of course dessert! Apricot strudel! Honestly, making the strudel dough was an experience in itself. You roll the dough (once it is filled with fruit) using the table cloth it has been rolled out and resting upon. Karmela also gave us suggestions for places to visit in Zagreb, such as a historic wine bar in the basement of a local cathedral. The staff was inviting and knowledgable. And the Dolac market was a treat! We would love to come back when we have more time to taste the farm to table Croatian style. Sign up for this class or enjoy her food tours. It will be an experience.

We had our class provided by Stephen and it was amazing. Stephen was extremely patient and very thorough on the "how's and why's" to creating strukli. This class was very important to me since I grew up having my Croatian grandmother making this dish for us. And, like most older generations, there were no recipes and I never really learned how to make the dish. Stephen did not disappoint as after this labor of love turned out perfectly. While the strukli were baking, Stephan took us on a very informative tour of Dolac Market. We had wondered through the market twice before our tour but learned so much more from Stephan. We sampled kulen, cheese, and rakija. And after the tour we sat down and enjoyed the strukli at the classroom. Stephen even took the time to lay out several "must-try" culinary experiences and places to visit in Croatia. You have to take this class!
