Description: The restaurant has a total of 180 seats, as well as two separate halls. The bigger one, called "Bakarena" ("Copper") because of its interesting mix of copper and wooden elements, provides 40 seats and is suitable for business meetings. The second one, "Onyx", is a VIP hall with 12 seats, with a very elegant interior thanks to the elements of the semi-precious onyx stones. The beautifully landscaped botanical garden, turned into a true oasis in the center of Sofia, provides 120 seats, 70 of which are located in the glazed and heated part of the garden, welcoming guests for ten months every year. The lovely plants, the murmur of the brook and the natural pond with swimming fish and ducks, will surely bring the guests of the restaurant into a peaceful and enchanting atmosphere away from the city noise. Additionally, Captain Cook restaurant has developed a special Loyal Customer Program with club cards for its regular clients.

“Fantastic Seafood, at a price”
Reviewed March 26, 2014

Went with my girlfriend for my birthday dinner here, and we can highly recommend the place for special occasions.

The waitress was very pleasant, friendly and attentive, always there when we needed something. We shared a Seafood Salad, followed by main courses of smoked Salmon and Sea Bass respectively, and Creme Brulee for dessert. The salad was excellent and included a nice variety of seafood. For the main course the fish was perfectly tender, cooked and prepared just right. I'm not always a big fan of smoked salmon, but this was just beyond delicious and makes me wish I could eat a kilogram of it every day. As for the dessert, I've had better only in one or two French places. Really good stuff all around.

The environment at the place is rather formal, but still quite pleasant, and in our case we sat inside on the upper floor, at a table overlooking the bar with a nice view of the artwork on the walls, like the big wooden ship near the ceiling above the bar, and various aquariums with fish. You can tell they have invested a lot of time and effort into it.

It's important to note that you can smoke indoors here, although it's not legal in Bulgaria. I've seen this before in other restaurants too, and it's something you can expect in this country where anti-smoking laws are not properly enforced. Although I'm a non-smoker it doesn't bother me, but if you are then keep this in mind, and inform the restaurant in advance that you wish to sit somewhere away from smokers.

It's certainly expensive by Bulgarian standards, and I wouldn't come here on a more regular basis, but in my opinion the quality of service and food could justify the price. On top of that you have to consider that it's in a hotel which often has business clients visiting from abroad, who don't pay as much attention to this, and higher than average prices are not unexpected. Overall we paid 135 Leva, which included the meals and a bottle of inexpensive but excellent local Bulgarian red wine (for 60 Leva).

“The Home of Sea Food”
Reviewed February 22, 2014

You have appetite for sea food, no problem, this is where you will be amazed! Sure, many restaurants will have a sea food dish in their menus, but here sea food is turned into art and the variety is huge! You will find Mediterranean fishes prepared in many different styles - from the easy Greek style to the pretentious Italian Gourmet style! If this is not enough ask for White Crab or the fish of the day! You are not going to believe that there is no sea around Sofia and everything is so fresh! Your tongue will say a big thank you after lunch or dinner Captain Cook!
Located at the lobby floor in Kempinski Hotel!

We had 2 salads, my daughter had shrimps, we had mussels saint jack ( I am definitely sure its not called that) they were very, very delicious and then for main meal we tried( recommended by the waiter..excellent choice) swordfish fillet just fantastic..
For drink we had 2 bottles fine Chilean wine( not very expensive but good choice) and desserts 3 souffles...
The service was top notch...
