Description: The restaurant is in the center of Sofia consisted of four restored houses from 1866 year representing architecture and style from beautiful Bulgarian towns Koprivshtitsa, Zheravna, Melnik and Bansko, combined with a joint yard and a beautiful Summer garden. We offer extensive menu with traditional Bulgarian recipes and Bulgarian wines. In the evenings from Tuesday till Saturday there is live folklore music. “Hadjidraganovite kashti” the way Bulgarian people pronounce it (means Hadzhi Dragan’s Houses) is like a time machine that will take you to the old days of 1866 year and you will get the chance to learn about the customs and culture of the country and to experience a culinary journey with Bulgarian specialties. The legend says that Hadji Dragan - a trader of wool and silk - lived a hundred years ago. He traveled around the country for a lot of years and went round a lot of districts. He was greatly impressed at the beauty of the Bulgarian houses ... (see legend at the web site)

We tried both this one both its "twin" Ibzi, that is placed in a more central street of Sofia. We liked both and possibly the Ibzi even more. The food is good and waiters are friendly (and speak some english too). Prices are average for Sofia.

We were a party of four business partners and one spouse. The meal started out well -- fabulous old Bulgarian atmosphere, great menu, cool waiter. The food was all good, too. We got a big salad for the table, several hot starters, and mains. Do not skip the chicken liver starter -- it was to die for. The cooked cheese was also good.

But it was all downhill from there. Even before the mains arrived the "music" showed up. This was three guys with an accordion, a drum (!), and some woodwind, and all of them bellowing. It was deafening. I simply cannot imagine why the management would inflict this on their patrons. *Everyone* there seemed annoyed.

But worse, only three of our mains showed up, leaving one of our party with nothing to eat other than cleaning the starters. The waiter seemed genuinely perturbed, as if it were the kitchen's fault, but for all we know he forgot to put it in. Anyway, the final main arrived about 20 minutes after the rest of us had eaten. This prolonged the agony of listening to the "music".

We enjoyed our dinner here immensely, the food was fantastic and the live music was great. The staff were a bit unresponsive and lacking in energy to start, but they became more friendly as the night went on and were really very accommodating, answering our questions and offering advice and friendly smiles. Great value for money.
