Old, very old building and premises but fantastic location. Significant difference between "standard" rooms and "budget" rooms". Its worth to pay the difference. "Standard" means, allegedly, renovated. Do not expect modernity but just decent. Clean, not spotless, rooms. Front desk staff...well...depends. Some friendly, some careless but overall, good chaps. Breakfast was adequate although the cafeteria goes dead in the evenings. As aforementioned, location is super. Right in the middle of everything. A short walk to most venues. Excellent value for price paid!!

This hotel is very well located and for 27euros a night it has a good value for money. The staff is really nice and very very helpful. The breakfast is not diverse and could be better, however if you are not too picky you will be fine. Since it is a very old place I reckon they could refurbish it in order to keep the clientele happy. My room's door and windows were new but the rest was quite old. The bathroom smelled bad and I had to shut my room's door in order to avoid hearing the old 1950's elevator. In conclusion I think you have other options which are as well located but prepare to pay double or triple.

apparently a three star hotel, but a very tired three stars! The hotel literature suggests that some of the rooms have been upgraded, but im guessing (and hoping) that the one i stayed in was not!. The wifi was moderate, the room dated and the lift from the 1950s i think, but the hotel served its purpose as a cheap stop for a night very centrally located.

some great history behind the hotel and would be great if it was brought up to the 21st century...

Room Tip: some rooms apparently have been updated and refurbished... get one of those..!

I booked into this hotel for one night, since it was central and SEEMED good value for money... Instead, what I got was a room right next to the elevator which was activated every 15 mins at least throughout the night, meaning I hardly got any sleep at all. Let's see if I can get a refund :-(

Room Tip: Far from the elevator!!!

The hotel is located in a very nice downtown area but surprisingly there's no dedicated parking so think twice if you want to stay there and you are driving... The stuff was friendly but the room was very old, cold and not clean at all. The power outlets were scary to use. There were dead bugs on the bed sheets. The pillows were hard as rocks. Old furnature and really everything... Surprisingly not well maintained for the location... The bathroom was with moldy tile grout and cracked tiles and broken trash can. The room was also super cold in the winter...
Really, really awful... Would not recommend!

Stayed for a couple of nights with my dad who is in his early 80's. We both had classic single rooms which have the advantage of being on the top floor, furthest from any traffic noise. The rooms are fairly basic (although slightly better than the standard ones), but with the advantage of a bath. Fantastic location right in the city centre close to most sights, public transport links and places of interest, but in a relatively quiet area in the evenings and at night. From the 5th floor I had a view of Mount Vitosha, which was an added bonus. The price was very reasonable given the location The reception service was very good. . Breakfast was very basic, but ok, with fairly standard Bulgarian fare.

Paid a little extra for executive room with balcony. Small but clean and comfortable.
Great central location for shopping, entertainment and sightseeing on foot.
True, agreeing with other reviews, breakfast is nothing special. I only bothered once.
Liked the old soviet era historical experience of staying in this hotel and would probably stay at this hotel again even though the front of house staff don't smile much.

Room Tip: Pay a little bit extra for the higher standard of rooms on the upper floors with balcony.
