“Fantastic historical church”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2014

This church looks as though it has been restored as it is beautiful condition. The historical significance of this church is that it gave the city it's name.

“Go on a Thursday for the free entrance to the necropolis”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2014

We found out that you could go to the necropolis for free on Thursdays and it was so worth it to go. The exhibit is filled with incredible history and there are two short films that either have english subtitles or are in english which share a lot of interesting facts.

“Bijou church!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2014

After visiting the Alexander Nevski cathedral many may miss this one out as it's not as impressive outside. The interior is very different, not the painted walls and ceilings as you normally find but vaulted ceilings made of bricks - really beautiful! There happened to be a christening taking place when we visited so we felt rather privileged to be able to watch the ceremony.
Although there is no admission to go inside this church, you can visit the vaults underneath which is also a museum - note, there is a charge for this but as we only had euros & dollars, we were unable to view this.

“Make sure you go down underneath”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2014

A really historic site, without fanfare in downtown Sofia. Particularly memorable was the crypt area underneath (small charge). You clamber around ancient tombs dating back to the Roman times. Very well preserved and atmospheric. A must-see for history buffs in Sofia.
