“Beautiful place in the nature so close to Sofia”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Vitosha mountain is only an hour away from the capital of Bulgaria. From the city's level it looks gorgeous and magnificent, and when your climb it - a great and wide view to the Sofia valley. A perfect place to rest from the city!

“Not what I expected”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Surprisingly enough, the local tourist office has little, if any, to make this trip worth for foreigners. Lets start with the basics. There is not one, not even one, indication in any other language than Bulgarian (Cyrillic alphabet) anywhere. We were told that public buses leave from a known square in downtown. We walked there, we went around the square several times looking for a "bus stop" or any sign relevant to the Vitosha mountain bus...nothing, zip, nada. Finally, we asked someone and we were told to stay put on an unmarked spot. We did. Finally, a minivan arrived, with no signs, just a number and after we got confirmation from one of the passengers (the driver had no idea what we were talking about) we jumped in. The minivan was crowded, no a/c, kids, elderly people, everyone standing up as the few seats were taken. Transit in these conditions is illegal in most countries. We arrived to "the park". A few map displays, signs and indicators but all in Bulgarian. Not a information booth or an English speaker on site. No where. We walked up and down. It was full with locals enjoying the good weather, a few cheap food service stands and lost and lots of barbeques. We tried to walk up (and we did) looking for a "mirador" to at least enjoy what we thought would be a fantastic view. No way. Nada again. In few words, wouldn't suggest you get out of the way for this trip.

“Beautiful place very close to Sofia”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Excellent place to walk into the mountain near Sofia. You could choose different hiking paths depending on the difficulty you prefer. Also there are two lift lines and very pleasant places to visit. In the winter you can also ski including the evening until 22h.

“Escape from the city”

Awesome hikes in the mountain. Ideally rent a car or get a cab to take you to Zlatnite Mostove (Goldeb Brideges) area of the mountain, and then hike from there. Great for spotting wildlife.

“Vitosha Nature Park, Mount Aleko”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

Me and my girlfriend went up on Mount Aleko by car. There is a way to pavement to above. As you climb parking and restaurants for food. There is also a lift of course! But for clarity attach a link on Vitosha Nature Park.
