This Church has amazing Byzantine Iconic art from the mid 12th century. Truly a wonderful place to see. Take the tour which was very informative and added a great deal to understanding the Church.

This is a place that you should visit if you come to Sofia. You need the guide because there is a long and interesting story behind the building and the paintings.

We went to visit this lovely little church at the end of a rather long day of sight seeing. It is in a nice little park setting. We were with a private guide who drove us there so I can't comment on the logisitics of getting there from Sofia.

We were assigned a local guide who was so intense it made it difficult to enjoy our allotted 10 minutes with the frescoes. He was constantly positioning and moving us to ensure that we fit in with his rote recitation and then if we did't respond to each peice of information he would ask "do you understand...."

I would suggest that you spend your ten minutes with these beautiful frescoes without a guide. Otherwise I would reccomend this attraction.

This was a very positive experience. The Boyana church is an UNESCO heritage, and holds a lot of history that can be told in a mysterious and fascinating way by the guide that is yours for 30-40 minutes (due to the limitations of actual human presence inside the old church) or so for a small amount of money. Check it!

It's a great place to visit in the foot steps of Vitosha mountain. The chuch is well preserved and quite ancient. A very interesting place to go on a weekend.
