I can only speak of the drinks and service, as I didn't try the food in that cafe. Well, the drinks were ok and slighltly overpriced but the service leaves lots to be desired. Haughty waiters that "do you a favour" by serving you - maybe they would have been friendlier if we had ordered food and our bill was bigger. Overall - not a place I would recommend.

Wien Cafe is in the center of Sofia, near the Alexander Nevski church and Saint Sofia church. First we hesitated a little to push the big doors of the cafe but I am happy we did because when you enter you step in another time and place. The two rooms, the main one on the left side and a smaller one on the right side of the entrance, are elegant and beautifully decorated in a Viennese style, the sitting is comfortable, the waitresses are in a nice uniform, black skirt and white blouse, there is a pleasant musical background (classical Viennese of course) and even a piano in a corner. The menu is very rich with special types of coffees (with some different liqueurs, whipped cream...), pancakes (sweet and savories), sandwiches, salad, main meals but, most of all, delicious sweets and cakes. The clients are also special, a mixture of old and new World, very interesting. Don't miss it.

This cafe is extraordinary for city like Sofia and it could be not everybody's cup of tea. Classical music creates this nostalgic atmoshpere which makes you stay. Do not miss it, especially the desserts, so you could have a genuine experience. Just pay a visit.

We loved this place when it was "Lucciano" and regretted that we could not visit during our previous stay in Sofia as it was rennovated. The result, however, is a nice, warm, elegant and very real Viennese cafè, which is so welcoming and comfortable. The tables outside are a "must' for the new smoking regulations and the nicely adjusted airconditioning inside make the experience even more special on the very hot day we visited. The music is of the classical range, with a very nice selection and volume. The staff are young, polite, cheerful and helpful. The range of cakes and light savoury dishes is really good and matches the name of the cafè. A lot of tempting staff but we could not go time and again past "Palatchinka" - excellent, light pancakes with savoury fillings. For them alone we would recommend the place - definitely the best we've had in Sofia! The prices are reasonable and for us tended to be towards the 'lower end' but we are aware that this may not be exactly the case for many of the locals. (There were quite a few Bulgarians at least on one of our visits, which was around lunch time.)
Overall, it is indeed a "very special place" and is wholeheartedly recommended. Its central position obviously is a bonus for the tourist -- it is practically next to several major tourist attactions like the cathedral "St Alexander Nevski". It should be better known and promoted as it also conveys something of the spirit of the Sofia of "old", which has practically disappeared.
