The photos of this property seemed very appealing and thus I was looking forward to my trip to the Dedeman Princess Sofia. I traveled with a large tour group as well. When we arrived to the hotel the outside looked a little seedy, but not terrible. The lobby did not set off any alarms as it was quite pleasing to the eye.

However, once I arrived at my floor I instantly became concerned with the condition of hotel. Dingy carpets, out dated. The room itself was even worse.

Mold on the walls, strange stains on the lamp shades, what looked like burn/soot stains on the wall/ceiling surrounding our main air vent, beds AS HARD AS A ROCK (might as well slept on a sheet of bedrock- not exaggerating), dirty carpets, bedding was filthy and made my skin crawl, and the bathroom had a creepy unexplainable door that opened to show concrete and pipes.

The men in our group were propositioned at least 4 times in 30 minutes for prostitutes- even within our hotel lobby.

The hotel is not near any main attractions, or even restaurants. All of these things are at least a 15 minute walk away. The area surrounding the hotel is not pretty and actually is pretty gritty.

The Sheraton, Radisson Blu, and SAS hotels are gorgeous and we wish we had stayed there. The price difference wasn't that much. The Sheraton had chandeliers and beautiful lobby interiors- you could tell it was a world class hotel.

The food at this hotel (breakfast) was underwhelming. The coffee was burnt and the "juice" was incredibly watered down.

I never saw the pool or spa so I cannot comment on those features.

Spend the extra $20 a night and stay in a nicer hotel in the middle of town. I never want to return to Sofia after this experience and would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Do not stay here.

way too expensive for a medium room with old furniture and a TV with bad connection. the hotel is clean and the room aren't too bad, but they overestimate their servises and they are charging it too expensive. the hotel is located a kilometre from the city center, near the trainstasion and the busstasion, the have a common pool in the rooms price and spa programs way too expensive for their quality. their breakfast is ordinary but it has naither a european nor a local taste. it;s mostly turkish-oriental and realy poor. the roomservise is unexpectedly good in normal price

The management conveniently lost my reservation ,,,it took about an hour to get this mess
straightened out ..all of a sudden it appeared in their system ..ya right !!!!
There was a dental convention in the hotel so I guess my room went to
a "higher paying client" who never had a reservation but was part of the convention and
was given my room .Lucky for me I guess someone checked out early and I was given their room at the last minute since they conveniently found my reservation .
The manager is a real con artist !
The bathroom was filty ..there was thick black mould growing around the chalking .
There was a strange odor coming from my pillow so I took the pillow cases off only
to discover that the pillows had been blood soaked recently ..use your imagination as to how that happened .Why would the cleaning staff ever
put pillow cases over blood stained pillows on a daily basis ???
I guess that they get directives from mangement to just ignore the health related issues .I took the pillows to the front desk when they were busy checking people in and demanded to see the manager ..I made sure that everyone checking in heard me and saw the pillows ..no apology from this brainless manager ,, just another one of his " we will investigate it " explanations ,,that is the only sentence that he seems to know in the English language ..I guess that is all he needs to know if he is a manager at this place .. more BS !!!!
I had breakfast with an American couple who had identical pillow , room and bathroom issues ..they slept with blankets stuffed in their pillow cases. So I was not the only client that was exposed to these health issues .
The room stunk horribly of cigarette smoke ...the room's carpet was stained as were the lobby carpets ..the place really is an old dump ..find somewhere else to sleep where you do not have bloody pillows awaiting you ..the "Princess" left the building decades ago !! There are some" Princesses" who stand outside the
hotel entrance at night waiting for" Princes" ..maybe that is why it is called the Princess Hotel

good points- beautiful inside spotlessly clean, porters and receptionists were very helpful and polite. good location central to everything. bad points- room service got it wwrong 3 times and were not very helpful at correcting the problem even after asking to speak to manager so i suggest not ordering any. there was work going on on the locks on the doors and they had wires all stretched across the landing of our floor. the key to door was hit and miss spent a lot of time getting new ones as they never seemed to work. overall its great just they need to improve these two things as thats not what is epected from a four star hotel. not advised for families

Good location, excellent friendly and helpful staff.

Good (online) price and good breakfast.

It did a thoroughly satisfactory job. It's not the Sheraton but it's not Gladys Knickers Guest House either.

4 stars. Check it out.
