I'm not sure what happened with GreteRatzinger, but to the contrary I found the owner Nicolay polite, helpful et al. He picked us up at the airport FREE OF CHARGE, showed us round the apartment (which was spacious, clean, with all mod cons and a balcony), we had a FREE mini bar - fresh juice, mineral water, beer and a much deserved bottle of wine! He then offered to take us on a FREE 3-4 hour guided tour of the city which we couldn't partake in on that day. I cannot sing Nicolay's praises enough. I booked through Hotels.com and paid approx £30 per night for the apartment and was very impressed with both the apartment and the owner! I also asked Nicolay various questions by email prior to our visit and received very prompt and courteous replies. Upon arrival he informed us we could contact him at any time if we had any queries or needed help in any way. I have visited many countries and been impressed by the customer service I have received but none surpasses this. Once again, thank you so much Nicolay for being so kind to me on my trip to your fantastic country. Kate. XxX

We booked to stay here for our stop over in Sofia in July but ended up canceling our reservation due to the owner increasing prices after we booked and insisting on us taking a tour with him when we had politely declined.
I booked through hostel bookers, where I paid my deposit, after looking at the website for the apartment. I was under the impression I would be paying £30 a night including free airport pick up and mini bar with the option of a free city tour. I emailed the owner closer to the date to arrange airport pick up and to say we would not require the mini bar and tour. The reply I received told me I would have to pay for airport pickup, mini bar and city tour. I was told that he could not advertise this on hostel bookers and gave me a new price for my stay. In reply to me not wanting mini bar and tour he stated that this was part of the apartment and I would have to pay for them and that we would need a city tour to find our way around and understand the language to be able to eat at restaurants and so on. This raised the price of the apartment by an extra £35. We could not justify paying for things we did not want or need as we spend a large amount of time in Bulgaria so understand the language pretty well and can read it very well which he would not accept.
The apartment is pretty far out from most places but is near metro, bus and tram stops. Just remember to buy your tickets before you get on and punch them as soon as you do get on to avoid a fine!

My husband and I visited Sofia in February for 5 nights. The owner Nicolay was really helpful and friendly answering any queries we had prior to booking right through to the end of our trip. He spent half a day with us showing us around the main attractions in the city ensuring we didn't miss anything and was able to help translate menus etc and even advise on a good local tipple! The apartment is very modern and spacious and it has everything you need including a hairdryer, iron, free wi-fi etc. We arrived on the coldest day they've had in over 20 years (minus 22) and in places we were up to our knees in snow so it was a godsend that the tram stop was only a 2 minute walk up the hill. The tram takes you in to the centre, takes around 15 mins and only costs 50p each way! All in all a fantastic place made even better by a great host Nicolay Kolev. Nicolay - a big thanks for your hospitality and sorry it's taken so long to write this review, hope your finger has mended! :0)
