“Interesting piece of history”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

The Baths are not really baths but troughs that the hot mineral water flows into. Many Bulgarians come to fill their bottles or wash their hands and faces with the "healing" mineral water. The water is quite warm but not too hot and has a slight sulfur taste. The actual Baths are in a building behind the square and are not currently open.

“Decaying grandiose building”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

In the center of Sofia, just behind the Tsum department store and the old mosque, there is a beautiful old building. On the sides of this building, there are fountains pouring boiling, mineral water which people believe has healing properties. Many people come, sometimes from far with their cars or the tramway, carrying empty plastic bottles to fill them with this special water, it is absolutely free. We had a turn around these decaying grandiose old Public Mineral Baths, taking photos and wishing that it was still open. It must have been wonderful to be able to bath in this warm spring and, if the indoor was as beautiful as the outdoor building, it must have been really very special. Let's hope that an investor restores this magnificent place to its former grandeur! So many places now call themselves spas when, in fact, they are only glorified bathrooms, here there is this wonderful water and this building, you wonder why it is left in such a bad shape, many people would spend a lot of money in a spa like that.

“An opportunity to see a different side of Sofia”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

The public baths building itself was closed for many years while it was being restored, but the square in front of the baths has always been a favourite spot in the centre of the city. The warm water springs that now flow into troughs are really quite amazing. This is where people gather with their empty plastic bottles to collect their supplies of free flowing mineral water. This is a great place to go to see real life in Sofia.

“Interesting!”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

Nice piece of history in the center of the town, part of every tour in Sofia.
Couple of springs with hot "healing" water, and lots of people around filling bottles.

“Nothing special”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

If you have more time and you are wondering what to do, you can see it, but if you have short time- do not bother. It is waste of time in my opinion.
