Visiting the amazing Rila Monastery and the lesser known rare-gem Boyana Church are a must !! And there is no doubt that Traventuria did a gorgeous job there.
First, they are timely. I went in a small bus, comfortable, super clean, with Air Conditioning. There was the driver and the guide. For the tour, they decided to exit Sofia from the East and then come back from South in order for us to take different routes and discover different parts, and it was a great idea. The guide's english is perfect, and he has the typical Bulgarian banter and jokes. On our way, we had a pause to get a snack, and another one to take pictures. Needless to say, these professionals master the time and space. Excellent safe driving and all. I am always hungry to cultural and historical information : the guide was always there to tell us precious stories (and not tales, I have read the history of Bulgaria, and the guide either knew a lot or simply studied History). Either way, we arrived to the Monastery. The guide informed us about the restaurants, the river and the small church under the monastery, and every question we had in mind.
We had like an hour break to eat, but trust me, unless you have hungry kids with you, you'd rather use this precious time to see the small Icon Museum or History Museum there, or have a small walk by the river.
Keep an eye on your clock, these people are timely, and in such beautiful place, time is lost easily.
Remember that in the main Church is buried the heart of the last reigning king of Bulgaria, King Boris III, who has managed to have zero Jews deported in the Second World War. It is worth a stop and a reflexion.
A lot I can say about the Church and the whole monastery. But nothing beats the respect it conveys, the mixture of the people, in age or race, the harmony between the rich contents yet the spacious architecture.
And the Boyana Church ? It is a quick visit. DO IT !! And buy the ticket upfront, save the hustle. It is a small Church with, again, unbelievable rich history. Only 8 (or 10) persons are allowed at a time, and for a limited time.
The guide will always tell you : take time for yourself and discover, no matter what I say, only what you experience will stay with you. And right he is !
The second day, I made new friends, who could not go to Rila with another company and asked me how I made it. I recommended Traventuria. They booked and used it and were super happy. Now that my recommendation was useful for them, it might be as well useful for you.

Had a wonderful trip with a small group of 8 people, with Svet as our driver/guide. The size of the group was perfect and everyone (all solo travelers!!) was friendly and good-natured. The vehicle was comfortable and air-conditioned. Got to know so many things about Bulgaria and everyday life of people, in addition to the details of Boyana Church and Rila Monastery. Definitely recommended to do the trip this way, if you are not driving yourself.

One tip - the two restaurants near the monastery get pretty full in season. So keep something as a backup with you, in case you don’t get a place at the restaurant. One more tip - there is one more restaurant which is not visible from the top but it’s close-by. There may be a better chance to find a place there if there are a lot of people around.

I found this to be a very high quality tour. The transport was comfortable and Martin was a delightful guide. There were a number of stops on the tour, but the time spent at each location was sufficient, thus the tour very well worth the money.

We booked a Seven Rila Lakes and Rila Monastery tour using the company web side. Our guide Radi met us near our hotel, as agreed, on time. The group was small, 5 people including us. After 1.5 hour drive from Sofia, we started with chair lift that brought us to the hike start point. The hike divided onto two part – the first one is hiking along Rila lakes, and the second is challenging climb - but the view from the top really worths it. 4.5 hours round trip ended near chairlift that took us back to the car. After the one-hour drive, we arrived to the Rila Monastery that was very spectacular – the ancient monastery in the middle of the forest. A must for this trip – appropriate shoes, snack, drinking water. Thanks Traventuria , thank you Radi .
