We booked the one week Riddles of the Rila self guided walking tour with a days extension to the Rila Monastery. All our arrangements were completed over the internet with no fuss. Every detail of our trip, including transfers, accommodation and meals ran without a hitch.
The accommodation arranged in Govedartsi was especially fantastic with Georg and family being perfect hosts, and meals some of the best in Europe.
Our walking notes were pretty good, although a few of the distances were understated, and a couple of the directions were a little unclear. Make sure you can hike with a map and compass! Having said that, the choice of walks was brilliant, and especially the mountain climbs were some of our most memorable ever!
The trip to Rila Monastery was fine and interesting - it is a very important place to Bulgarians. We did feel that we were up sold on the lunch stopover, which ended up our most expensive meal in Bulgaria! And the stopover to the "auto museum"/ junk yard was odd to say the least!
We will definitely be back to for another self guided walk with Traventuria in the amazing mountains of Bulgaria!

I had a one day tour to Rila Monastery. It was surprising that I had two confirmation emails after the booking which I found it very kind and caring. Although the car was little small for 6 of us with last minute booking, the guide Svetoslav was very kind and knowledgeable. He gave us very kind introduction about Bulgaria's history and detailed explanation about heritages which made my day. Rila Monastery shows history of Bulgaria by giving hidden message of its geographical location and history. Rila mountain in the background is awe inspiring and it is surely only one in the world. It is worth to take the tour and it makes your Bulgarian trip memorable one.

My wife and I joined the tour. The guest was only two of us, so it was just like private tours. The guide came to our hotel to pick us up on time and served us as s driver too.
In spite of our poor English skill he was kindly explained lots. He was friendly ,informative and thoughtful through out our day .And sound like he has a various knowledge, too. He took us a famous cave(St Ivan passed his long life )and some view points, Not only visiting to Lila Monastery but also passing through the narrow cave and hiking to the view point was our fabulous experiences. Lunch was delicious , fresh fish trout in a local restaurant , with wonderful views and atmosphere. Of course the traffic was confortable. That our tour was some flexible was a good point, because our trip was just like private tour.
8-hours trip flew by. Thanks Nikola for a good guide and driving for a long time.
I would like to highly recommend Traventuria as an excellent and reliable company .

Great trip today to Rila Monastery. Very efficient organisation and comfortable transport. Our guide, Nikola, was informative, considerate and good company. The monastery and church were impressive and there was plenty to see on the journey. An excellent lunch stop. A very good day.

Self guided tours are an excellent way to soak up the scenery and the social, cultural, natural environments experienced along the way - at your own pace. While the majority of the hiking routes were clearly marked and very easy to follow, one or two needed either some way markers better positioned on the trail or better indications given on the guide notes provided. A small glitch in an otherwise extremely well designed hiking holiday. Drivers were always on time to collect our luggage and drop it to the next night stop. All were very polite, friendly, great ambassadors for Bulgaria! Rumen our driver from Sofia to Devin and from Kosovo back to Sofia (via Plovdiv), Carlo who collected us from the Miraculous Bridges and drove us to Kosovo, George our driver in Sofia, and of course our wonderful guesthouse hosts - Rumen and Zakarena in Lyaskovo and Svetlana in Kosovo village: simply superb hospitality!!
I was a last minute addition to an already organised group and with only a week's notice, Ivailo (Traventuria manager) was able to make all my arrangements - some of which fell outside the usual tour package - without a hiccup.
Very easy online payment, all boxes ticked, nothing left to chance. A very sharp operation - can whole-heartedly recommend Traventuria and will be happy to have them arrange my next trip to Bulgaria.

Dear Tanya,
Thank you very much for the kind words. It is our main goal to improve our products, which is a continuous process and feedback like yours help us and our future clients a lot. The Rhodopes are very special part of Bulgaria, which normally stays outside of the popular hiking itineraries and trails, and the tourist infrastructure is not always so well developed. But this attracts very special people (like you) who are looking exactly for that, as this provides a true taste of Bugaria, far away from the commercial routes. We will surely continue our efforts in the development of existing and new self-guided walking holidays in the region, revealing the Rhodope Mountains and Bulgaria at their best.
