I went on the Rila Monastery & 7 Lakes tour in one day, which started at 7am and ended about 7pm. It was a long day but very well worth it. If you have little time and would like to do the monastery and 7 lakes in one day, this is the best (or only?) option you have. Everything was very well organized and yet with no rush whatsoever-unlike on some organized tours! I had plenty of time to look around, taste some delicious Bulgarian yoghurt, take an endless number of photos and ask my wonderful guide, Simeon, a bunch of questions, which he answered happily (thank you, Simeon, you're the best ;)). His knowledge was impressing and he took care of me perfectly well, even when an unexpected thunderstorm set in and we got soaked pretty quickly :) This day was the highlight of my trip to Bulgaria and while it is expensive, unfortunately, you'll have fond memories for a long time to come (and no, for the suspicious one out there: Traventuria didn't write this comment themselves, hahaha).

We booked this company having read other reviews and are glad we did.
They collected us from our hotel on time, our friendly guide spoke very good English and the transport was comfortable.
We also visited Sofia and Plovdiv and we would recommend both as a nice city break.Bulgaria is a lovely place to visit and we would definitely use the services of Traventuria Ltd again.

After visiting Sofia on our own for two days, we booked an excursion to Rila Monastery and Boyana Church with Traventuria, as a Bulgarian friend suggested us. The bus picked us on time, the driver was very friendly and spoke English very well, he was very patient and helpful.
The journey to Rila lasted 2 hours and half and was pleasant, he was driving very carefully. The visit of the Monastery was a great experience, we spent 2 hours there, at due time, we went to the Boyana Church and the back to Sofia. Traventuria offers an excellent service, and we recommend it.

We were in Bulgaria for five days of which we spent three days exploring Sofia on our own, at our own pace. We went on the Free Sophia Tour on Day 1 which gave us a fair idea of the city and places of interest. Day 2 and Day 4 were reserved for day trips that we booked through Traventuria.

Traventuria was very responsive right from the time we contacted them before we left Dubai. We were given several options and we chose two day long trips. 1. Plovdiv and Koprivshtitsa with brief stop at the Kulata Ethnological Complex (Thracian Tomb). 2. Rila Mountains, Seven Lakes and Rila Monastery.

Our guide on the Plovdiv-Koprivshtitsa trip was extremely knowledgeable, and provided historical details and little nuggets of information about the bygone era, the recent past and the current situation. He made sure that we were comfortable at all times. It was a most enjoyable visit as he did small (but meaningful) things like stopping by a field full of yellow flowers just so we could walk into it and pose for photographs, suggesting lunch options etc.

After a day's rest and pottering around Sofia, we made our way up Rila Mountains and Seven Lakes, and stopped at Rila Monastery on our way back. Our young guide was extremely considerate given the fact that our ages ranged from 30+ to 50+, and we were not in the fittest of physical conditions. He regaled us with legends of the lakes while ensuring that we were safe during the trek up the mountain. When he realised we were eyeing succulent cherries sold by the roadside, he stopped so we could buy some. Little gestures like this meant a lot to us.

We were more than satisfied with these two day trips and would recommend Traventuria if you wish to go beyond Sofia and explore other parts of Bulgaria.

Wear comfortable footwear while visiting places like Plovdiv and Koprivshtitsa.
Sturdy shoes will take you safely up and down Rila Mountains and carry a couple of sandwiches and water bottles.
Don't forget your camera.
Make sure you are modestly covered if you wish to visit Rila Monastery.

We arrived in Sofia 2 days before our group tour of Bulgaria, Macedonia and Greece began. That tour was with another company arranged out of the UK. After searching on Trip Advisor and looking at maps, we decided to arrange a day trip to Plovdiv and Bachkovo Monastery on one of our free days. After looking at the various companies running this tour, we decided to go with Traventuria. We had a wonderful time with a wonderful, knowledgeable guide.

Our guide picked us up at our hotel at the appointed time. He was extremely knowledgeable and very proud of Bulgaria and the Bulgarian people. He had a lot of enthusiasm for showing us the sights. The tour was well organized and we learned a great deal that day. We were a bit unfortunate with the weather, but we were able to work through that without a glitch. All of the entrance fees were included in the fee, so there were no "surprises" on that front. Our guide chose a wonderful place for us to have lunch with input from us as far as lunch choices. The lunch was priced very reasonably and as stated on the itinerary, at our own expense.

Some people comment that you can do this trip on your own, but we preferred the tour because we did not want to rent a car and frankly it takes more time to take public transportation. Also, we do not speak Bulgarian and that would make it more difficult. We felt that the guide definitely added a great deal of value for us. He is well aware of the history and shared many facts with us. At the Bachkovo Monastery he was able to arrange entrance to a secured dining area that was in remarkable shape and was just stunning.

It was a wonderful experience and I would definitely recommend Traventuria to other travelers looking for tours in Bulgaria. Had I it to do over again, we would have arranged our entire trip through Traventuria.
