From check in to check out, the service was on a par with a luxury hotel. Reception staff and bellboy a fount of knowledge and more than willing to assist. What impressed me was the fact that fluent English was spoken. The standard of cleanliness of bedroom and bathroom was exceptional, down to the TV remote control. Ample and fulfilling breakfast. Willing and cheerful staff without being obsequious. I bought a bottle of wine from a wine merchant outside the hotel, but could not open it without a corkscrew. I called reception who immediately sent someone up to my room with an appropriate wine opener. I have stayed in some of the best hotels overseas and this hotel is hard to beat. I would have no hesitation in staying here again. The amenities the hotel possesses are first class. Nothing is too much trouble for the superb staff. The hotel has trained some really special individuals and is lucky to employ such dedicated persons. The chambermaid who cleaned the room on a daily basis missed nothing. Warm and very comfortable. If I employed any more superlatives, I would risk being disbelieved!
Sofia is an intriguing city that would be simply wonderful if it was not for institutional corruption that has siphoned off EU funds and rendered the city below the standard of many capital cities in Africa and Asia. This situation must be reversed. In my opinion, not enough is done to attract foreign visitors to Sofia and the Mayor of Sofia and the government are to the blame.
