“Good introduction to Bosnia”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2012

We booked into the Kandilj because of the free airport transfer they provide.
Rooms are relatively basic yet comfortable. I suppose the only gripe being that if there are people knattering out in the courtyard, the noise does travel through to the rooms on the lower floor.

The fella that works there speaks english well (the ladies, not so much), and he is able to help you with any and every question to be asked.

Kandilj is perfectly located just outside the old town.
Having spend 2 1/2 weeks travelling around Yugoslavia, looking back, the room was a bit on the high side for what you get (EUR$62 with breakfast).

We really liked this place. Clean and comfortable in a quiter street near the river and centre. Everything in walking distance. Only downfall was that there was no parking (although the secure parking was not far away, it was a bit expensive) and that all of the staff didn't speak english that good. ´But would definately recommend it. The best pillows on our trip :)

This place has to be one of Sarajevo's best-kept secrets. We paid 62 euros/night for a double in the high season. The room was clean, bright and tasteful. Unfortunately, we had 3 single beds instead of a double and one extra for the child, but they were comfortable. The wifi connection in our room was good most of the time.
Breakfast was excellent. You get eggs made to order plus a generous buffet in the cute dining area.
The staff are very nice and helpful, and the place has an altogether homely feel to it.
Downside: First, it is somewhat hard to find, being located in a 'potok', which is a little side street parallel to the one for its name (in this case, Bistrik potok). (Maybe this is why it's a best-kept secret.) Since on-site parking is non-existent, after unloading in the tight spot outside their gate, you have to leave your car in the public carpark down the road and over the bridge at a cost of about 11 euros/24-hour period. It may not look like it, but it is a perfectly safe and reliable location that the hotel sends all their guests to who have cars. Driving in Sarajevo is an ordeal, with steep, narrow roads in poor condition, so we just dumped the car for our entire stay and relied on the efficient trams and buses to get around. We took a taxi out to the Tunnel Museum and Termalnja waterpark.
Once you get your bearings, you will find that the location is very good. It is a short stroll to the Turkish quarter and there are several good restaurants within striking distance.

The staff here are very helpful and the rooms are comfortable and with air conditioning which we really needed with the recent heatwave. A nice fresh breakfast and close to the wonderful bazaar. When walking to the bazaar - which is mesmeric - look on the ground for the roses. Splatters of red paint which show where innocent people were massacred going about their normal business. You will still see bullet holes in walls and remnants from the unbearable siege - this is living history and I strongly recommend you stay at this guest house and discover this remarkable city.

We had a great stay in Kandilj: warm, caring and professional staff, quiet but central location! Furthermore, the rooms and the courtyard are cozy and nice, it really "feels-like-home"...and breakfast is excellent!

First of all, the staff were really good about answering e-mails (and quickly) long before I even checked in. They helped out with reserving bus tickets for me and gave good info about the city and getting around. Location is near the Latin Bridge which is very convenient for central Sarajevo. It is well connected to the bus station by tram. Beddings, bathroom, furnitures were spotless but the floors were a bit dusty (the only negative part during our stay). Breakfast was typical and included omelets cooked to order. I thought the price was a little high though, but I was still satisfied.

We were warmly welcomed and really enjoyed our stay here. The room was clean and spacious (although lacking a little in natural light, but that doesn't matter when you spend the days exploring Sarajevo). Breakfast was nice and freshly prepared. No complaints whatsoever, would really recommend it. Also, the location is absolutely brilliant.
