We had a great stay in Kandilj: warm, caring and professional staff, quiet but central location! Furthermore, the rooms and the courtyard are cozy and nice, it really "feels-like-home"...and breakfast is excellent!

First of all, the staff were really good about answering e-mails (and quickly) long before I even checked in. They helped out with reserving bus tickets for me and gave good info about the city and getting around. Location is near the Latin Bridge which is very convenient for central Sarajevo. It is well connected to the bus station by tram. Beddings, bathroom, furnitures were spotless but the floors were a bit dusty (the only negative part during our stay). Breakfast was typical and included omelets cooked to order. I thought the price was a little high though, but I was still satisfied.

We were warmly welcomed and really enjoyed our stay here. The room was clean and spacious (although lacking a little in natural light, but that doesn't matter when you spend the days exploring Sarajevo). Breakfast was nice and freshly prepared. No complaints whatsoever, would really recommend it. Also, the location is absolutely brilliant.

Kandilj pansion is well located in Sarajevo, just a few minutes walk from the river, Latin Bridge and pedestrian zone of the city.
Room was spacious, clean but a little bit cold. Personnel was really kind, helpful and friendly, always ready to give you a tip or advice.
Breakfast room is typical Bosnian, a nice place to start your day. Recommended for a stay in the old city.

My husband, son and I stayed here 4 years ago. I had always wanted to go to Sarajevo but being a bosnian serb, born in Britain, was a bit worried about how I would be received! I can't tell you how lovely everyone was but especially at Kandilj! We still remember the names of the staff. They played with our son who was 6 months old at the time, gave us a fever remedy (our son started to burn up after landing), chatted to us in the evening, advised us where to go in the day. The rooms were a welcome little oasis after our flight, clean, pretty and serene. The food was great. They made our first time in Sarajevo amazing. Thank you!!!

I stayed here in 2010. The journey was a nightmare from London via Vienna., nearly missing my connecting flight, and also missing the taxi driver assigned to collect me,.After all this and luggage gone walkabout, things could only get better.
. The Kandilj did just that.A friendly welcome and a clean room with good facilities was just what I needed. You are a hop, skip and a jump from the old Turkish quarter, with many good restaurants nearby. The neighbourhood was safe, and getting around was very easy, you really dont need trams or buses unless you are going out quite a way.The breakfasts were great, with friendly service. Stay at the Holiday Inn by all means, but try a small place with a lot of character and Hospitality, amnd you wont go far wrong with the Kandlij !

Room Tip: A room higher up in the building if you want more peace and quiet.

We stayed at the Kandilj Pension for 4 nights in October. It's a simple, basic guesthouse tucked away on a quiet street near Sarajevo's old town.

The location can't be beat, really. It's a fairly charming place -- rooms are simply furnished with kilims on the floor and nice bedspreads. The employees are very friendly and kind. Breakfast was pretty good, with lots of bread, jams, cheeses, meats and omelettes, coffee, tea, etc, and was served in a cozy room with English TV blaring overhead. It's pretty clean (though not spic-n-span clean like other places we stayed), but acceptable. Bring your own toiletries. It was mostly quiet, except for 1 or 2 large dogs that barked through the night behind the building. A mosque is a few doors down, so you will hear a faint call to prayer in the morning. But, overall, it was a decent budget choice for Sarajevo.

The thing that spoiled it for us is guests and employees smoking cigarettes. Now, I realize that most folks in Bosnia smoke, but do they really have to do it in a hotel while they're working?

The cleaning lady smoked in the breakfast room, while talking to the omelette lady. She left after a few minutes, but the smoke stayed behind, filling the breakfast room -- not really what we wanted to smell first thing in the morning. Another employee smoked in the reception area behind a closed door. And, either guests or staff were smoking in the hallways, so that it wafted into our room. Gag.

Now, I realize this place isn't an official "non-smoking" hotel. But we've stayed in other places and have never had this problem, because the staff is considerate and doesn't light up in front of guests. But not here.

Too bad, because we really wanted to love this place. The rest of Sarajevo was amazing and we're already planning a return trip.
