“Reduced to tears”

A moving experience which reduced me to tears . All visitors need to see what these lovely people have been through to appreciate their past and give hope for their future.

“A really important museum!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2013

If you are in Sarajevo, you must see this! I learned so much. Of the war, of the ancient times, of the Ottoman perion, the Austria-Hungarian period. The hardest thing and most important thing was the exhibition about the war. We never learned about it in school, so this was quite a big shock for me. But I would never be without it.

“Museum must be saved!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

This fascinating museum has so much to present about Sarajevo's distant and recent past, it is a wealth of information displayed in a creative manner. Unfortunately, the staff is working fuelled by passion, not salaries, and the physical place is falling apart due to neglect by the government. It is an outrage -- the material is disintegrating in the poor conditions and will be lost to future generations. See it now. Demand support for its maintenance.

“A gem of war time history and now with a museum shop!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2013

I loved this Museum because it has managed to bring to life the experience of everyday war during the siege of Sarajevo 1992-95. You can see what the kitchen looked like, how people fetched water and what kind of limited foods were available. Newspaper articles, original street notifications, posters, photos are all there to bring back to atmosphere of those times. The Museum also hosts a lovely glass painting of the Vojo Dimitrijevic artist. Also memorabilia of the socialist history of Bosnia is available and there is a beautiful statue of Tito (Josip Broz). Recently a Museum shop opened with very reasonable prices and good and practical products. They tend to host interesting exhibitions, both architecture and art and handiwork and civil society action events.

“Informative”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013

It seems run down and even closed from the outside, but inside it is a great source of information. Upstairs focuses on the Serbia/Bosnia crisis in the mid 90's and goes into great detail about capturing and bringing to justice the fugitives of that massacre.

There is a nice beer garden behind the museum.
