I really recommend Sarajevo Funky Day Tours. Skender and his team provide a pleasant and informative tour, including "total siege tour" in Sarajevo and the day trip to Mostar.

We took 2 tours with SFT: the total Siege tour and the Jajce-Travnik day trip.
Excellent. Excellent. Excellent.
These trips made our visit so much more meaningful than if we had gone it alone (we like independent travel).
The tour guides bring their personal experiences and stories and you cannot help be captivated and enchanted by their resilience despite the history.
Ask lots of questions -- the more you ask, the more they share -- and they share more than just the touristy stuff. SFT felt like family, --feels-- like family we left behind in Sarajevo, who took us to all the secret hide-outs normal tourists don't know about.
They go out of their way to accommodate everyone's needs -- you are personally catered to, not just another tourist in a bus.
Go to Sarajevo and tour with SFT.
Go to Jajce and Travnik -- beautiful enchanted forgotten towns that have you imagining medieval kings and a bygone era -- magical.
And let them know their California friends sent you :)

Even if they do not have enough people for a tour -- book anyway -- last minute bookings happen and are so worth it.

BiH is beautiful -- heartbreakingly so. Let it seep through you -- the hurt from the war and the warmth of the people -- go so that they know they are not forgotten. It gives them a reason to look forward to a future at a time when they feel stuck in a negotiated peace which stopped the war but failed to propel the country forward.
And when you go, hug them from us.

Did the Siege Tour taking in the War Tunnel near the airport, what is left of the Winter Olympics bobsleigh run, and other locations overlooking Sarajevo where the Serbian army was located. Guide had lived through the siege and driver had been a soldier in the Bosnian army. Both gave a fascinating insight into life under fire. If their office tell you that there are not enough people to make up the tour (min 3), keep persevering as others may subsequently book. Highly recommended.

A Hong Kong friend highly recommended Funky Tour to us and it turned out to be one of the best things in our visit. We were in a group of four and our guide was Skender, who was 8 years old during the war and whose father actually fought in the war for Bosnian people. Skender does not only have a lot of knowledge about Bosnian history, but the most precious sharing comes from his personal and family experience. I would highly recommend this to everyone who is interested in visiting the Tunnel of War, which is quite far away from the city centre. Also, without the explanation of a knowledgeable guide, the visit would not be as fruitful and impactful. The tour also included interesting places that are quite inaccessible to tourists if not with a guide. If you are interested in places off the beaten track, Funky Tour would be a top option. Their office might close earlier than expected in low season, so try to email them or go to the shop earlier.
