If you get time stop at the well preserved medieval and Ottoman town of Poticelj. A climb up to the bastion and tower allows splendid views over the River Neretva and the old town and mosque and minaret.Even though damaged in the Bosnian war it still makes a splendid site to visit. The path up to the fort is lined by stalls selling fruit and souvenirs-I bought some grapes with wasps for free!

En route to the Bosnia & Herzegovina/ Croatian border you come across a little diamond in the rough - Pocitelj village and old fortress. The village is tiny, however takes up a large portion of the mountain side and is surrounded by a medieval fortress. A bit of a climb, however the views of the surrounding country side and of the Mosque are breathtaking.
There is a small little restaurant / cafe at the base of the hill along with a few locals selling souvenirs.
Take 30 minutes or longer to explore, you won't be disappointed, just be careful though as the stairs in the fortress are steep and have not banners or safety rails.

Pocitelj is small but very beautiful town in Herzegovina. All houses are built out of stone so it has unique appearance. Houses are scattered up the hill that you need to climb if you want to visit Pocitelj fortress. View of the town from there is wonderful! If you would like to stay there for a day or two there are private homes where you could stay and enjoy hospitality of locals. I would definitely recommend it for a coffee and relaxation.

Very interesting but tour guide only gave us 20minutes to explore. Saw Muslim mosque, took photos. Souvenir shops. Toilets in reataurants-ok; just have to buy something first.

We stopped here on our way to Mostar, and I was absolutely enchanted with with this wonderful little town. It's absolutely beautiful, on the top of a hill with stunning views of the river and countryside. There's a mosque, old stone houses and it's a relatively easy walk to the fort above the town - it's definitely worth going up the tower, even though the stairs are a little steep. Also, be aware that like other old towns around here, the old paths can be a bit slippery. Tour groups do stop here, so it can be a bit touristy but definitely worth visiting! Overall, it's one of my favourite small towns in the region.
